A Hall For The Hopefuls

This, as well as several other comments a few pages back, sum up my feelings. Especially the one where someone said "young, single, able to move around" or something to that effect. I'm 28, married, my wife says we're not moving for a while at least. I love everything about compass, but I do have to consider longevity and stability. It's impossible to tell, but I don't know if I want to take that gamble. High stakes, high rewards indeed.
That being said, Compass has been like that girl in high school that liked me but couldn't quite commit. I moved to Phoenix and started looking at Skywest, and Compass opens a Phoenix base. My hours start racking up and I apply to Compass, and they froze hiring. So I through an app over to Skywest, do the cadet thing, set up an interview for late December. Then Compass breaks a four month silence and offers me an interview mere days before Skywest. At the interview they offered a job but no date. A few days later, Skywest says "we'll call you." After the holidays, they call with a date. Within a week, Compass calls with a date basically identical to Skywest. I thought it was a fun little rollercoaster ride and it's been a tough choice. But I think I'm going to go over to skywest and relinquish my spot so another hopeful can take it. I mean, unless something comes up in the next week or so that reinvigorates Compass.
It was really tempting, even despite the rumors of losing flying. I like the smaller company, the bases, the type of flying, potential to move up in seniority, résumé-building opportunities, and most importantly the people. But since I'd be starting at 0 time part 121, I don't want to worry about only getting a year or two in and then have to start over at another regional or maybe try to get a LCC. I'm not one of those "I'll be at delta in 3 years" guys, so I want to be able to work my way up since I'll be at a regional for a while.

Can totally understand your predicament. I have a family as well but have been in the regional game before. I’m new to Compass but did another regional in the past. Got the furlough too! This industry is constantly changing. Being home based really took priority this time. Compass has 3 bases, SkyWest has a multitude. Living in the west, Lax or Sea aren’t horrible commutes. My biggest concern for you would be an east coast base with phx never happening. Just my 2 cents. Either way both companies are solid places to be.

My phone rang this week. Sadly, the timing a little too late for me. I’m headed to another regional. Hope to receive the CPZ wave once I get back the the west coast and wish you guys the best. Enjoy the ride.
Thanks to VI for the mentoring along the way.

I just got an email from pilot recruiting at compass to call them at their phone number. When you call it has a voicemail just asking you to leave your name and number, and they will get back to you in the order the call was received. It's been a full 24 hours, does anyone know how long it normally takes them to get back to you from the voicemail?
