I agree, but if you had the time required to upgrade to CA, would you wait a year? I'm not exactly a spring chicken.

When you have the type rating AND the upgrade you are qualified. Until then, you are simply coming across as entitled. I sat “SIC” for a considerable number of hours in an F-15 but short of a bird strike through the canopy and the HUD taking out my front seater I was never going to be PIC. Was the experience valuable when I got out? Oh yeah sure, but until I got the appropriate ratings, I was just a WSO with a PPL and an instrument rating.

Pretty sure I could land a 727 though, even if I’ve never flown one, but I’m damn sure I could put a slammer into one from the back seat of a Strike Eagle though.

That’s the difference between qualified and just probably able to do it.

I'm not acting "entitled" to anything, but I meet their qualifications. I've been contacted by two other carriers who talked to me about their DEC program. Why should I start out as an FO if they're offering me a CA spot?

Who the hell would do that?

Negative. Frontier requires 500 TPIC.

In your shoes, me for one. I have NEVER had an 18 year layoff from flying. But if I had, two or three months as an FO getting my currency back, getting to know the FOM I was going to be flying under and the airports I was going to be flying into before I was doing it with a guy sitting in the right seat who only had 1600 hours and 1475 of that in a Cessna 172, while I only had a hundred in type and fifty people in back whose lives depended on me would strike me as a very wise move.

And I’m sure that any outfit that was offering you a DEC job would be overjoyed to still offer you the DEC bonus and upgrade AFTER you had 2-3 months as an FO for them. In the time you’ve spent dithering over WHERE to go you could have gotten 80 hours of recurrency.

Firstoff, thanks for being civil about this, unlike the other twats on here.

Secondly, I totally agree with you and would love to work out a deal with them such as you said. There is also a "Near-Direct Entry Captain" program and I think that would be perfect for me. It would allow me to really "get my feet under me" and prepare me for upgrade.

Thanks again for the constructive criticism and not insults.

Sounds to me like you don't know much.

It's funny how an FO who probably doesn't have the flight time to upgrade to CA is insulting me because I do. You're the typical CFI to FO chump who thinks they know everything.

And I'm sure the Mesa guys say the same thing about GoJets, so quit talking bad about other carriers. None are perfect.
