Compass might bid for ual contract

Embraer announced order with United Express for 20 E175s with 19 options at the Paris Airshow. So who will get these..... It would seem CRJ700 are on the way out.

Text from the announcement:

The E175s will be configured with 70 seats and replace older aircraft in United's feeder fleet, likely Bombardier CRJ700s, says the carrier's chief financial officer Gerry Laderman.

Replacing older aircraft is a necessity for United, which can only have up to 255 with 70-76 seats in its regional fleet under its contract with pilots. It operated CRJ700s, Embraer 170s and E175s that, together, totalled that number at the end of March, its latest fleet plan shows.

Laderman describes the E175 as a "terrific aircraft" for the United Express fleet, adding that some passengers view it as "nice or nicer than some mainline narrowbodies".

United's regional partners ExpressJet Airlines, Mesa Airlines and SkyWest Airlines operate some 153 E175s for the mainline carrier.

Laderman says United will at a later date determine which regional partner will operate the 20 newly ordered firm E175s

Compass MIGHT bid on anything...

And certainly any 175 flying. In fact, they’d be fools to not bid on itinerary they thought they could make money doing it. But whether UAL is interested in a new contractor - or whether Compass would be the preferred one - is a whole different matter.

Probably will goto ExpressJet since they are the quasi “wholly owned” UA carrier now and they just launched their 175 program recently.

Honestly makes a lot of sense. It’s perfectly timed to match what could be the end of the DL contract if not renewed. Expressjet is kind of busy already with their 175 deliveries. Supposedly they’re not very happy with Mesa. And Skywest prefers to own their own aircraft and I’m sure the Compass bid was very competitive, combined with the fact Trans States Holdings just won the CRJ550 flying for Gojet so I’m sure that led to some discussions about 175s. Supposedly we just narrowly missed getting UA flying before that went to Mesa and had even been told it was ours before the press release went out saying it was Mesa. Combine that with RT talking about having to deal with big changes being part of this job on the last call. As far as rumors go, it seems more solid than many others.

It was real, but died for various reasons. Lots of people in building C saw various paperwork for it. Ultimately it didn’t make enough sense for Hawaiian or Compass.

So, who is going to lose 700's?

Still believe it will go to Skywest. They are giving up 700 to gojet so it makes sense they would get them. Plus read up on deal for when they sold Expressjet. Said they were next in line for new 70+ seaters as part of deal
