Compass Airline intel?
 

What is the word with Compass? I have civilian and military training and have been contacted by their HR after I sent a resume. Sounds like they are growing. This would be my first 121 gig. Not real stoked about flying a 175 for $24/hr- in fact I think it is criminal but need the health benefits when not on military orders and would like some 121 experience to help my career goal down the road. Thanks for any words.

See what you can learn about their flowthrough...if it continues to be valid for DAL, that would be a big plus.

The flowthrough that we had at Northwest is written in the new contract with the Delta merger. No one has flowed-through yet because NWA is not hiring, and the captains at Compass have not been on property for 30 months to flow-through as written in the contract. Everyone seems to be confident that if the merger is successful and Delta is hiring again, Compass pilots will begin to flow through (the rate is 20 a month).

Of course very shortly you will hear plenty of people complain that flow throughs have a history of not working, and then you'll probably see a post from a L.S. (lisa simpson maybe?) that Mesaba has a flow-through with NWA that allowed something like a whole 10 guys to flow through already.

My advice: if you want to build 121 experience, get hired at an airline that is doing well in tough times, and work with great people, then come over to Compass. If you want to come here for the flow through ONLY, think about it a little harder.

Understand you're a current Compass guy and not thrilled with the outfit? Can you elaborate on the pros/cons of the job. Do people there have a good attitude and is the outlook for growth positive? I wouldn't be taking the job for flowthrough- I work with a lot of DAL guys and feel confident I already have the credentials- they just aren't hiring.

Any other info from Compass dudes or those that know about Compass is greatly appreciated.

I never said I did not like it here at Compass. It's a great place to work, and 10 times better than my last airline. All of the people that work here are great. The airline has it's typical airline problems that all airlines have, other than that it is a great place to work IMHO.

How long have you been there? Understand after interview/hire there is a 30-day home study program? Do you get paid for that and are you considered an employee for medical benefits?

I've been here 8 months. You are correct on the 30 day at home study. Most people finish it all in 2 weeks. It is all computer based training. You get paid a few dollars while you do the 30 day home study, maybe enough to get dinner twice with the family. I can't remember exactly but it was maybe $200 or $300 pay for the home study. Once you finish the home study and go to MSP for one week of INDOC you start making guarentee (75 hours/month) at the beginning of your indoc in MSP. After 5 days of indoc then you go to Montreal to get your 170/190 PIC type rating (one month in Montreal). Then off to fly.

I believe medical benifits begin when you start indoc in MSP. You get travel benifits 2-3 weeks into your home study, depending on how fast they enter in your paperwork, and put you into the CASS system.

Someone who has been through more recently please feel free to correct me on changes.

I think the chances are really good, MEM is most junior. Then DTW. MSP is senior. Someone else will have to chime in about new hire classes, I have no idea where they are at. They will give you lots of good info on where they are at now at the interview. Last I heard we are up to 320ish pilots, looking to have about 400 on the seniority list. If they take more aircraft orders on top of the 36 after Decemeber, then we will obviously need more than 400 pilots. I couldnt tell you if that will happen or not, and I dont think anyone can at this point.
