On the interview, the cognitive test, is there anything one can do to prepare prior?

Lumosity won't hurt, but I don't think you really can do a whole lot of prep for it.

Read the instructions before each quiz thoroughly, maybe twice to make sure you understand the procedure / quiz. I signed up for Luminosity and felt it was of some benefit. You can always cancel the membership after you get the position. Good Luck!

i will second this. Also take the practice before actually starting each section. If you don't read the directions on some of the tests you will definitely fail for not following them.

Is there airport ready reserve? If so for how long and how many times per month can they make you do it. Are people being used while on reserve or just sitting?

Yes, unfortunately we do have ready reserve and it is the worst part of reserve (other than the pay if you're an FO). Eight hours long, you can do three in a row and up to half of your available days can be ready reserve. They can go over that amount if you are the only person available. That last part has not come up for me, or anyone I know. Also, they aren't allowed to have more than two crews on ready reserve at a time.

I"m on reserve and I get 20-25 hours of flying a month. So far a whole 3 hours this month. It is base dependent though, LAX reserves probably fly a lot, with SFO's weather and runway issues. I'm a DTW guy and things usually run pretty smooth over here.

Next year will be a different story as I am sure it is going to get crazy with flows leaving and planes coming on line.

Didn't do any of that practice stuff and got the job still. Spent maybe 4 hours total pre paring for the interview. Hardest part I thought was the cognitive test. Just because it is so long.

Every one is different tho, good luck

Thank you for the responses everyone!

Also, I have a bachelors and I'm at 1350 total time, 560 multi, 510 multi turbine and exceed everything for the ATP. Well, except total time.

I've began preparing for interviews by reviewing everything I've learned thus far in my young career so by the time I hit 1500 and the phone rings, I'm ready.

Question is, will compass call me? Because I see that some aren't getting called and I'd love to have a chance to interview with cpz

That's the 10 million dollar question. "Crystal ball, me to. Will anyone be calling me also?"

How many do they need to hire to staff the 20 airplanes for American?

Are they still planning to hire 300 next year?
