Gota few questions I didnt find the answers to elsewhere,
What is typical dress code for initial class date and training? Also, for those who commute what is compass's policy on commuting/commuter clause?
On reserve, how long are callouts?

Thanks

Dress code is business casual from day 1 until you finish training. No suits necessary or ties.

Allow yourself 2 flights to get to your base and then call scheduling if you won't be getting on the 1st and update them on what it looks like for the 2nd. If you don't make it on the 2nd then they will reassign you, deadhead you or tell you to get there when you can and modify your pairing. I think after 2 mishaps of not making it you have to have a chat with the chief pilot... I don't have much experience with commuting so someone else might have better insight.
Reserve? What's that?

Reserve call out is 2 hours. 20 minutes to call them back. Last day of reserve release by 1800 if they aren't using you. If they try to use you past 1800 and you ask they'll give it to someone else if they can. They aren't shy about assigning ready reserve.

Are they're any of you from SAN working at the LAX base on reserve? Pretty specific question, I know. Was curious how it works for you if most of the trips are one day. Are you making the trip back and for every day. Also, had asked this earlier, could someone post a typical monthly bid for a reserve?

Thanks in advance..

Bidding is completed via PBS, so each pilot's reserve schedule is different based on their preferences. Some guys like weekends off, other guys like to fly weekends.

Blocks of reserve will be in 3,4,5 or 6 day blocks. 11 days off on reserve in a 28, 29, or 30 day bid period. 12 days off in a 31 day bid period. Days off come in no less than 2 day blocks. Each reserve pilot is entitled to one block of 4 consecutive days off, but that can be limiting on the rest of the month (bidding wise) and is waive-able by the pilot.

Long call reserve and your reserve start time on the first day of each block of reserve days (either 0400, 0800, or 1100) is bid in seniority order after the reserve lines are awarded. To clarify, the reserve lines (days on and days off) are awarded first, then long call reserve and when you're responsible for answering your phone is awarded a 3-4 days later. Both are done in seniority order.

How long are the trips usually out of LAX? A lot of 4-days? What trips go senior?

Ya, That. And what type of time schedules do seniors lean toward? Mornings, later starts etc.?

Guys, everything varies. Some guys like early starts, some don't. Some people like longer trips, some like day trips. That's the beauty of seniority. You can get what you want but there's no standard of what the "senior" people take every month.

Everything varies. Profound, never thought of that. Thanks for sharing.
