Its only going to help you if you itemize your taxes. Most people do not unless you own a home. Also you can easily create your own excel spreadsheet that will do the same thing. We don't fly to that many places. You just look at where you did an overnight, and compare your per diem for that day to what the federal rate is for that city. You can then deduct the difference. LogtenPro has a per diem sheet in its report section.

FIRST OFFICERS! Please learn how to "PROPERLY" initialize the airplane. Every god damn airplane I've picked up from another crew has had the flight number locked in.

NEVER type in the flight number into L1 on the initialization page, unless the last f#!€ing crew already locked it in.

It's easy! You get into the airplane, first go to the route page and change the flight number (you don't have to wait for the CA to do this, just do it yourself!) THEN INITIALIZE after the L1 line changes automatically.

I didn't apply to this airline to call clearance.

No, in my experience, thats not what makes the ACARS 'latch' to a flight number. Even if you follow your procedure, the ACARS will latch on the third leg flight number. If you're lucky enough to get an airplane all day, and do 4+ legs, you'll find after the third leg it will latch. Now, that said, I've noticed that some planes are getting new software (in-range gate info will send/recieve twice, another bug) and I'm not sure what that new software does to my 3 leg theory. The work around that I have used with success as an FO was... on leg three, after you land, BEFORE you block in, change the RTE page flight# to your next flight# (I always did it after starting the APU). It will not latch to the third leg #. But now you have to do this for every leg from now on. Or just shut down/restart the plane and get another 3 legs of ACARS PDC glory:cool:

Or you can change it in the transponder page.

Wow, there's a simple QRH "Flight ID Frozen." Just pull a single circuit breaker. Make sure the APU isn't running and your good. No need to restart the plane. This isn't a big deal. So you have to call for a clearence.

I think people need to focus more on leaving the flight deck in a presentable manner for the next crew, ie, don't leave the garbage bag behind full of your banana peels/tuna pouches open and still attached to the seat.

And calling CD takes all of what, 60 seconds, one minute of probably the 15 mins we all sit there waiting for a CLR/Pax Count doing nothing anyway

How about FOs stop deleting the flight number from the RTE page as part of their after landing flow? I reference the flight id on the taxi in to confirm the flight number when we get radio calls and it's annoying when it's unexpectedly empty. One time I called dispatch to confirm they got our in times because I thought our acars took a dump and that's why it was empty. Not a huge deal, but if you're going to do this at least brief it as non-nornal switch movement.

Wow, this is what the 121 world has come to now, complaining about having to actually call for a clearance. SMH

This could be true I honestly don't completely understand why it latches, but my IOE captain mentioned that typing it in causes it. Also haven't flown 3+ legs in one airplane, so I have never seen this.

This is huge, had to deal with a coffee filled leaky trash bag left in the flight deck yesterday.
