How to get a Compass Interview?

Since they are owned by Trans States, do you have to get hired by them, or does Compass still do their own hiring, etc? I have had my app with them for a while and not even a phone call or a an [...] letter hah. Got 3000TT, 500 Jet PIC with 1000 in the E170... any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

hockeypilot44 07-26-2011 09:37 AM

Get an ATP and a college degree?

cantwin 07-26-2011 09:49 AM

I have both, thanks... What I was looking for was somebody who interviewed with them, how long it took before he/she received a phone call after filling out app. Did Trans States call them or Compass?

I applied to CP in October 2009, updated my application in June 2010 and received a call from Compass HR a couple weeks later. Things are backed up in the training department due to some changes the FAA has implemented, and incompetence in parts of the dept.

cantwin 07-26-2011 11:02 AM

bcpilot: thank you for the links, I will check into it.
tylervet: makes sense... thanks!

CamYZ125 07-26-2011 12:33 PM

Cps still does the hiring. It does seem like a crapshoot on who gets called. Just keep your app updated. Good luck.

Mattio 07-26-2011 05:53 PM

I got a call the next day..

Flynovru 07-26-2011 06:21 PM

I got a call the same day. As said before, keep updating your application. They may be slower to call right now due to the training backup. Good luck!

BOGSAT 07-28-2011 09:01 PM

Any calls currently going out (stats would be appreciated)?

Thanks

mrbojangle 07-31-2011 05:43 AM

Took me over a year after a few resume updates and an internal rec. Got the offer, but am waiting on a class date. Any other poolies out there?

Laxrox43 07-31-2011 05:58 AM

When I applied back in 2009, I had an ATP, PIC Jet type rating, PIC Jet/T-prop time, 2500 (plus) total time with about 1500 multi-engine turbine, NO check ride failures, and an Associates degree (at the time, a Bachelors degree was NOT required). I never heard a peep from HR. Not even the dreaded “Thanks but No Thanks” letter in the mail.

Now, on the flip side, I have heard of people being hired with less then 1500 hours total time, barely any multi-engine time, an ATP written, and multiple check ride failures. I guess it all depends on what their “flavor of the week” is on the day they receive your application?

Anyway, that’s my 2 cents…take it for what it’s worth.

BOGSAT 07-31-2011 06:12 AM

Thanks for the info mrb and Lax. Just wondering what there current hiring plan is for 2011 and if there were any phones currently ringing. Re-updated last week and have the "preferred" requirements, minus the 121.

You need 1500hrs, it's in the contract. There were a few pilots a douple years ago that got hired without it, but that got stopped by the union.

Also less than 3 check ride failures...I tried to help a friend who had a few and they didn't interview him.

It took over a year to call me for an interview.

Why would you want to go there with this experience? Why not sit tight, gain more time and aim for JB, SWA, Virgin or legacy airlines?

My boss sold the airplane... if I sit tight, I won't get very far.

If you want a job at Compass, meet these qualifications:
-4 Year Degree
-ATP mins as per FAR § 61.159
-have an ATP certificate, OR have the ATP written completed
-good work history/progression
-good training record
-no criminal history
-clean driving record
-and meet the other requirements posted on the website

I'm pretty sure if you meet these metrics, you'll be called. Although, I hear they're only hiring for a pool now.

Good luck!

I have that and was denied an interview....

BOGSAT 08-03-2011 02:26 AM

Are there any calls going out?

HAL39 08-04-2011 07:49 AM

Apparently we've hired enough pilots to staff the new aircraft, and even a few extra to improve staffing. We're now at 420 pilots on property for 42 aircraft, where in early 2011 we had 340 for 36 aircraft. Most of the new hires are still in training.

Still conducting limited interviews for classes in late 2011 / early 2012. These classes are for projected attrition, so dates / class sizes are subject to change. If DL picks up some flows, we'll be hiring like gangbusters again. If not, the classes will likely be small (2-4 new hires) 2x a month.

Another note: If you were DENIED an interview, it's either because you made a mistake on your application / didn't fill it out completely, you don't meet ALL the minimum requirements (not just ATP mins), or they found the skeletons in your closet. If you simply haven't received a call yet, be patient, grasshopper. If you're qualified and you've submitted a complete application, you'll likely get a call in the next couple months. The training dept just needs some time to get through their backlog.

Good luck!

gearcrankr 08-05-2011 05:00 PM

I have a walk in closet for all my skeletons and got an interview. I may suffered a mild stroke from the cognitive skills test. Either way apply and keep updating.

BOGSAT 08-05-2011 08:00 PM

Is there any folks currently in a pool? Any invites going out, if so, when?
Thanks!

Improved staffing and yet we still get critical pay trip solicitations daily. :D

Most likely...though it will just be a knee-jerk reaction from scheduling since they've been used to posting CRI every day for the last 9 months :D

With the "golden 8" coming back on line and the upcoming upgrades, will CA's be staffed (somewhat) appropriately this fall given the increase in fleet size?

No

We are way understaffed on CA right now. We are taking delivery of 3 more a/c, with only 8 more upgrades planned. On top of that, we'll have about 20 timing out by year's end. It's only going to get worse.

Where are you getting your numbers? 20 pilots timing out in 2011?

Well, got the denied interview email again. Maybe I need more current time? I've only done around 30 over the last 6 months....do you think they want to see 100 or more? More current multi time? Everything else should be spot on for this.

Thoughts from people that know....

It may very well be lack of recent experience. Do you have an aviation job currently, or are you just flying on the side for fun?

20sx 08-16-2011 06:29 AM

I have a part-time job as a flight instructor. Not a whole lot of flying, but enough to keep my skills up. Might need to try and get some more students! Otherwise, I can't see what the problem is. No FAA problems, a jet type rating, 121 experience (been almost 2 years now though), and decent flight time. The only thing I can think of is low hours of current experience.

Is your application filled out thoroughly, and correctly?

20sx 08-18-2011 03:57 AM

I believe it is. If something isn't filled out, it usually "tells" me so.
