Compass Pairings/Trip Construction

Can any CPers provide some general examples of typical pairings? Block times for four days, three days, two days? Does either base tend to boast certain types of trips or trip lengths? What do typical report and release times look like?

How far down does the PBS "reach" with respect to decent lines?

Trips are pretty much the same between both bases. DTW is the only base with 5-day trips. With several pilots living in MSP, 1 and 2 day trips tend to go very senior there. Credits for all the types of trips range from 5-7 hrs per day. In the past, the average legs per day was around 2-3, but with all of the west coast flying mother Delta has asked us to do (LAX-SFO shuttle), average legs per day is up to above 4.

As far as "decent lines", beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most lines average 14 days off. It is not uncommon for junior lineholders to "luck" into a few weekends off while holding 15-17 days off, with the way PBS is set up to award flying. That being said, there are still plenty of 11-13 day off lines being awarded.

Hope this helps.

Agree with what was said above. MSP has a lot of 1-4 day trips. DTW is a smaller base, so there are less of each there. There's a lot of commutable trips (don't have numbers but I'd say more than half), and many are productive. Everything from 28/29 hour 4 days (generally one end is not commutable) to 20-25 hour commutable 4-days. Fair amount of three days, but those seem to be un commutable on one end if they're worth 20+ hours.

On the flip side, we do still have 4-day trips with 30 hour layovers that are worth 18-21 hours, but those are the minority. Same goes for 3 day trips that are worth 12-15 hours.

Overall, the trips are pretty good. PBS is good to the senior guys (16-19 days off), but can be harsh on the junior folks (11-13 days off). It all depends on the block hours for the month.

Sounds like some pretty decent trip building. Is MSP senior?

Where can I find a decently current route map with the west coast flying on it? (I have a Mac so I am unable to view the interactive stuff on the company's website...not sure if that's it or not.)

Shows where all Compass planes currently are... check on it a few times a day and you can get a pretty good idea

Not especially senior. The last time we hired the junior most pilot was in DTW. When I was hired three years ago we were sent to MSP, but I got out of there before I was out of training. With the hiring it shouldn't take more than a month or so to go to either base.

People are getting what they want out of training. You may have to commute for a month though to wait for the effective date if you didn't get it from the first vacancy you participated in.

Mustache are you at Compass?
