Compass or ExpressJet - thoughts?
Looking at joining the 121 regional world and these two come recommended. Not really concerned about being hired and typed with the R-ATP, since I already hold an ATP, earned it the old school way with 1,500 hours. In addition to all the normal questions, I am basically looking to see how long reserve will last at either airline and which base is the junior base for that airline.
I'll be commuting out of FLL or PBI. An ATL base for XJ would make for an easy commute. Thanks for your time. |
From what I have been through since I was hired just over a year ago, let me be the first to say, stay far far away from ExpressJet, This place hands down has got to the worst run airline or business I have been associated with, and I am not the only one that feels this way! Hope this helps.

Hands down Compass. Current Compass CAs hired before Aug 2010 will all be at Delta through the flow starting now until all gone. You have guaranteed movement this way whereas ExpressJet is stagnant.
|
Agreed. Given the option between the two, I'd pick Compass every time with the theoretical large-scale movement ahead. That, and they seem to be the only regional that has a semi-functional relationship with Delta at the moment. Comair and Pinnacle guys can tell you how bad it sucks when Delta has it in for a regional.

What about those two plus Skywest?
|
Compass hands down, no questions asked.

Compass compass compass compass compass, and did I mention Compass? Absolutely zero question there.

compass. XJT is being run by morons.

I would also have to say compass, but if the Fll / PBI commute is anything like TPA, than forget about it .....
That commute is tough ..... Good luck |
Compass. XJT is swirling the toilet bowl due to mismanagement and extremely high costs relative to the other regionals. 50 seaters (CRJ and ERJ) are going away over the next few years with no replacements slated. Displacements, downgrades and even furloughs loom on the horizon within a year or two. You will not hold ATL. ATL will most certainly continue to shrink and become more senior. It's already the most senior base on the CRJ side. Junior bases are DTW, IAD, MCI.
Compass will have a fast upgrade because the Delta flow throughs are about to leave. Despite being owned by Trans States, they haven't been bent over yet. |
Like others have stated...Compass would be wise because alot of movement is about to happen but no one has a crystal ball...do yr own research and go with what's best for you...

I'm currently one year in on the L-ASA side of things at Xjt and have an interview at CPZ in one week. Seriously considering leaving, but my conditions are:
1) Shorter upgrade time (3 years ideal) 2) Better management (can't stand how XJT runs things) 3) Hot flight attendants Okay, I'll take 2 of those 3 if push comes to shove! |

He's the former Trans States chief pilot, the one who tried to take off on one engine and then lied about it and got his license suspended for a month. He was also known for displaying all the IDs of the pilots he had fired in his office. A real gem, that one. Other than him, Compass management is reasonably competent for the regionals, and our chief pilots are actually fantastic. The system chief is the best I've ever worked under, and both assistant chiefs are good guys. 3) Sorry, you're gonna be disappointed. We have some fun crews, though, I've had some great overnights here. |
MW was actually the DO of TSA. How's he doing over at compass? You guys can definitely keep him.
