Compass vs. Skywest: W/ZERO 121

Compass is nearing street captain. Skywest is heading to the poll with the highest 1st year pay(I think). However Compass short upgrade is for someone with at least 1000 121 time. So if one had 1000 121 hr, this would be no brainier. What about those with zeroe 121 hour? Where do you see these two companies in few years? If you had ZERO 121 time now, which would you seek?

Making your decision based on what people Say here is a bad idea, IMO.

Make a list of the pros and cons for each. Where do you want to live? Company track record? Company outlook? Upgrade time? Flow thrus? Etc.

Don't chase the upgrade. Today's quick upgrade has a funny way of becoming tomorrow's dog ****. Don't listen to the negativity on here. Or you'll be miserable your whole career.

And for the record I chose Skywest over compass. Do I wish sometimes I hadn't? Yeah. But since neither are my career gigs I am not looking back!
(I also had pic time)

Bottom line: make the decision for yourself and not because of the opinion of others (especially here). Or you will never feel good about it!

SkyWest is a good company to work for, as is Compass. Pick the one that allows you to drive to work & not commute. Good luck!

1. pick the one that allows you to not commute
2. both are good places to be
3. you will most likely have a higher relative FO seniority at Compass
4. Skywest pay is slightly higher

May main concern with Commpas is there owned by TSA now. What does that mean for the future 5-10 years out..??..

Whoa whoa whoa!!! Wait a minute. You do realize that you deserve RESPECT? ExpressJet is offering that according to their adverts on this site. Man, I'd think long and hard about this. You're choosing between almost certain career advancement and valuable respect which XJT apparently has a monopoly on. Hmmm.. Choose carefully man.

jk, good for you! SkyWest has very attractive base options but CPZ seems to have faster movement. Depends on where you live I guess.

As a west coast guy myself, Skywest and Compass were two very viable options. I chose Compass because going with Skywest would have meant that I would have been based out of ORD for the first few months, meaning I would have had to commute to Chicago, do the crashpad ordeal and then spend a ton of time waiting to get the LAX base, and God knows how much longer I'd have to continue to be on reserve, since LAX seems to be a more senior base. The thought of losing a day commuting in and another day getting back home was a big no no.

That was most likely the #1 reason I chose Compass over Skywest. Being able to drive to work from Day 1 (LAX) and sitting reserve for just a few weeks living 30 minutes away was important.

Furthermore, Skywest has a ton of 50 seaters that have an uncertain future.

I also like that Compass is a much smaller airline in terms of pilots, Skywest has thousands and a ton of lifers - therefore, you accrue relative seniority at Compass much much quicker, meaning your ability to bid for the schedule you want comes much much faster at Compass.

Compass just got 20 new airframes for AA flying and they appear to be growing more and more by the day, so this is a perfect moment to get on with CPZ because of the growth.

Flying the ERJ vs CRJ is a big plus although not a huge deciding factor. I rather do the longer legs every day, than the 30-45 minutes trips 6 times a day on a CRJ200 with a lav all the way in the back.

Skywest is not part of any union, and a lot of people don't like that.

Either way, like most people say, choose the one which will keep you at home without having to commute. Get in, get out and get on with a major asap.
