Not necessarily. Just looking at all my options. I've known guys who went one way or the other, and I know guys who've done airlines and then moved to corporate. There's good and bad either way you go.

Depending on where you go, there can be more flexibility in a corporate job, particularly in the earlier years. And the money can still be pretty competitive. The flying can also be more interesting (in the way of destinations). A friend of mine flies for a corporate gig up in the Seattle area... One day he may fly the floatplane up to British Columbia to take the boss on a fishing weekend, the next time he may fly the Citation out to Hawaii.

Just go in to it with a humble attitude and you will do well.

I'm still years away from this point, but very interested in corporate/135 flying after the military. Just a quick pile-on question. My aircraft doesn't have a civilian type equivalent. Is that something to be concerned about? If so, would it be worth paying out of pocket for a type rating? I only know one or two folks from my jet who've retired from the military then gone on to the 91/135 world, so my depth of knowledge on this isn't the best.

Don't pay for your own type rating. Just because you have a type rating doesn't mean you'll find employment with such type. If the employer wants you, he'll train you. Yes, there are tons of employers looking for specific types. They also want you to be current and with 5000 hours. These employers aren't looking for quality. They're looking to hire for cheap and get the best rates on their insurance.

Not having a type rating isn't a problem, RNOFlyer, and, if it was, you wouldn't want the job. I hired a retired 89th, Scott C-40 guy and he worked out fine. Decent jobs will send you to the type school.
