Default Challenger 604/605 Steep Approaches

I may be missing something here but how are Challenger 605's shooting the 6.59 glide path angle from FAF DOYPE to MDA into Aspen KASE on the LOC/DME-E approach when the FCOM states glide slope angle greater than 5.5 degrees is prohibited. First time into Aspen

My best guess is they are flying the Special IAP into Aspen. Another thing is that FCOM limitation applies to ILS Glidelope Angles and may not apply to Non-Precision Approaches, advisory Vertical Descent Angles (VDA)’s.

The previous poster answered it but put another way the LOC/DME E has no glideslope. Yes it’s a steep approach and requires more planning and setup in most aircraft. 6.59 degrees at 150 knots GND speed requires about 1750 ft/min decent. Not sure what the approach speed of the challenger is, but that should give hu an idea. Also point of interest it’s usually better to descend a little steeper into 15 since the visual glide path is only 3.5. If you don’t you may never catch the PAPI.

Not a Challenger pilot....but the mins for the approaches are to circle mins and it’s a glide path (not slope) as mentioned above.

My recommendation is that if the airport isn’t in sight by ALLIX or DOYPE, don’t continue down.
Ive seen people screw up the Roaring Fork Visual frequently. They get cleared for the visual from 16,000 on the downwind and try the first turn in and can’t manage the descent. The valley is yours....use all of it. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Expect tailwinds down final that shear off the lower you get.

As much as the arrival.....prepare and look over the departure too. There is the LINDZ and SAARD depts. you will have a separate OEI procedure since you won’t make the altitude for the turn up the valley. It has you go to a DME fix off DBL. not sure what avionics you have. If able....split the FMS’s and build the OEI dept in the right side.
Have fun and be safe.

We are required to see the airport by DOYPE. We've messed around with the descent from CEYAG in nice weather, and I would absolutely not be comfortable with a straight-in in bad weather from the MAP.
