Yeah, I've seen some great 91 jobs. But then I've also seen 91 pilots sit around the Thomasville, GA FBO for 5 days straight. After day 2 I asked why they were hanging out there. They said the airplane owner was dove hunting, and they had to hang out at the FBO each day in case he decided to leave. They would hang out until 1700, then get a hotel reservation. Then come back the next morning to repeat.
No thanks.

Flying single pilot over the Cascades, in the middle of night with known icing conditions, and raw data. How did i get paid 1/10 of what i do now?

So you’re judging all 91 jobs by the one instance you saw once at some FBO?

Just like our legal department, I get paid to say no. That’s 90% of the problem with these bad 91 scenarios, no one with the balls to say no. Owners have to be trained just like us pilots do, and they will never change if no one trains them.

lol, I think we have all see those Part 91 pilots sitting in the FBO looking bored out of their minds while watching a crappy cable show and draining the coffee machine.

In Doha, pax limo left after we did, the next morning, he found out we stayed at the Ritz and he was at the Marriott. Oops, Jepp had a cheap deal at the Ritz. I’ve done some waits at FBOs, but not many in 18 years. Get a crew car and find lunch, go shopping, play a round. In this day and age, you’re on phone so why hang out.

As far as waiting around - I'd rather be in a FBO than at a boarding gate in the terminal.

it is a grass is greener moment, but I wish I got the chance to just sit around the FBO more! I enjoy it! I’m usually a whirlwind from arrival to departure and could use another cup of coffee and I NEVER get to rest in the sleep room :-)
