Thats one of the MAJOR reasons I couldn't do it anymore. Begging and asking for raises... it got old after 11 years...
I mean, if you find a job that can give you annual raises (not 2 percent COLA raises) respect time off, not be on the hook all the time, allow generous vacation time, get time off when you need it and not bother you when you're off then yeah... your QOL won't suffer too much on the swap.

Do you feel that corporations were honest about this is the interview process?

No. They said annual raises based on performance. I had great performance, and the raises were "at the discretion of the review" which could take 6-12 months AFTER your annual hire date. Screw that. And then it was "based on discretion" whoever was doing the review. Its not like I worked with the DO or CP etc, so who do they ask? It was ab arbitrary process that only helped the brown nosers or sycophants. Enough was enough.

Give it a few months, get off probation, get into a WB and move to your domicile. You'll make way more money, have much more time off, and should you lose your medical, you will be covered until reaching the mandatory retirement age.

I just finished my first month on the line. I flew about 50% of the total hours I used to fly in a year at the corporate job I left. But it feels like so much less work, because there is so much less to actually do, and think about, besides flying the airplane. I don't even think about the flight till about an hour before the van shows up and I look at the flight plan for the first time. Commuting has been a little bit of a pain, but mine is fairly easy. I'm also able to hold a line starting next month, so my QOL is going to be even better very soon.

I fly the GV/G550 and every one of my pilot friends have gone to UAL, Delta, SWA etc because they are sick of being gone and working every side of the clock. I am 52 and have done corporate my whole life and not gonna change now but knowing what I know if I was you I would stay there. The only applications we get from Major airline pilots are either furloughed or retired. I have never had a pilot just apply working for a mainline and decided 'Oh time to try corporate'. More to the story??

If it’s any consolation, I left UAL for a Gulfstream gig, and I was home based at UAL. Everyone acts like it’s crazy, and from a straight long term compensation aspect sure you won’t make the same $$ on the corporate side, but I was in the same boat, done with the airline style flying, airports, etc. Do what makes you happy and you’ll never regret it, regardless of what everyone on the internet will tell you.
