Help on a Citation

Gents/Ladies:

I've been asked to help a friend get a quick once over on a Citation that he is interested in.

I'm not wanting a pre-buy inspection, just a quick once over the info I've got, as I've no background on these types and the pitfalls that have been known with them.

I posted here, as you are the experts in this arena. I also know from friends that a lot of the corporate pilots are also A & P's. I just don't know anyone with Cessna background.

I've got a huge civil background, military, and fly for a large express cargo carrier out of Memphis...but I know my limitations and I've a much better pilot than I am a mechanic...(don't hesitate to ask me about flying at purple...)

Thanks in advance, and as always, fly safe!

What kind of Citation?

Pretty broad question. Depends on which Citation, hours, age, engine status, if it's on Cescom, corporate or private owner/operator, etc.

Give us more info.

1997 Citation VII

The jet is a 1997 Citation VII, and if you have some background with them, from a pilot or A & P perspective, PM with an email, I have alot of specs and some log book info I could send you.

Thanks in advance, and I know it was a broad request, but was hoping someone make have some background and could at least give me some guidance.

Thanks

A word of warning about the Citation VII- it's no longer a production model, so some parts are becoming hard to come by. I know an operator that went down for over two months this summer while they waited for a part to be custom manufactured. The parts situation is only going to get worse as time goes on since the VII isn't one of the more popular aircraft in the Citation line.

Yeah, the 650 series is out of my league. I do have about 30 hours in a III but that was a lifetime ago. They are nice airplanes and the VII is the nicest of them but as Josh said, parts are something of an issue. I always thought they were a little short legged for an aircraft of that size and class, which may be why Cessna moved away from them.

All that said, a nice low time VII could be a real nice airplane for somebody at the right price.

If you really want an expert opinion, give Weststar Aviation (formerly Premier Air Center) in Alton, IL. a call. They are a factory authorized Citation service center. Ask for Pat Welch - the guy is a walking encyclopedia of Citation knowledge. They would be a good place to have a pre-buy done as well, if the location suits.

A VII is not an airplane I'd want to do "a quick once over" on.

I'm not affiliated, but they do a lot of work for us and we have been very satisfied.

Got to ditto what everyone else said. Parts can be scarce, and I have heard that same rumor about the need to custom make parts. Residual value will also be a factor.

And by all means...get a prebuy done by a reputable facility. Also, I would pick a Center where that Plane has never been to.

Cessna Citation Toledo is good for 650s also, from what I have heard from a 650 driver.
