I now that many of the teams, owners, and drivers own/use corporate flights to move around the country. Is this a who you know kinda gig? Do you think that they advertise anywhere?

The chief pilot for Michael Waltrip Racing hangs out over on APTAP. Posts as NASCARPilot. He posted two months ago looking for a pilot before the start of the season. Not a bad place to start looking for information.

I talked to those guys a few years ago at the Bristol race. QOL isn't too bad, tons of on-the-road time though during the season, but it all depends if you do the team-shuttle, or driver. Depends on who's dept. you work for. Personally, flying Rouch's 727 would be scwheet!!! But I digress.

I flew for a team back in the mid 90's IT SUCKS. Doable at the time cause I was single. Road time is unreal. And you don't just fly in and hang around all weekend. I flew 4-5 round trips every weeknd bringing people in and out. Good for time building, that was it.

Well if you hang out at FlightSafety, the NASCAR team pilots are the ones wearing camo pants and flip-flops, spitting into a cup.

Hey guys I have done some contract work with a couple of nascar teams. The pilots are all good ol boys its like a big family. It is a who ya know kind of gig. Waltrip has a CRJ 200 so that is pretty cool and there is a couple others that are on the circuit. You need to get a left seat gig if you can just due to the fact that the good job don't come open until someone quits. But the negative thing is it is alot of hurry up and wait then wait some more. climbinto350.com is where the waltrip jobs would be.

I worked full-time for a non-winning team for two and a half years. That department supported all the Cup and Busch operations, in addition to non-nascar race support.... and pop-up trips for the owners.... and their wives .... and maintenance ..... and on and on. And the pay was poor (I believe the "winning" teams offered much better pay). And the schedule 10 months out the year was on-call every day. EVERY DAY. And the hours were very long during the season (5am departures ... sit for 12 hours .. return). There are lots of Brasilias on the circuit, the previously mentioned Saab 2000s, a couple of CRJ-200's at least one ERJ, and lots of King Airs / BE1900s. (but a lot of the 19seaters are chartered, not team-owned).

The airports around Charlotte, NC are where you'll find team aircraft based.

I believe it's very much a who-you-know environment in terms of a job-offer. If you have another full-time gig, you'd do well by getting some contract work for a team, and maybe if you like it and they like you, full-time could follow.
