Premier 1A Type rating
#11
I think you better raise the price tag on that type rating. Unless it has dropped since I was typed about year and a half ago it was over twenty. As far as differences between the two the Premier is a little hot rod. It really is a lot of fun to fly. It has a very short range nothing like what Beechcraft would want you to believe. Example, fill the seats range is about 750 nautical miles. Depending on which Premier you will fly the 1 or 1a the brakes really suck and the anti-skid system is even worse and guess what no TR's. If you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks lauchlanair. My type was one of the entitlements, and my subsequent training has been in a full service contract with another airplane, so I wasn't sure how much a stand alone Premier type was.
I did like the Premier program at FSI Wichita. I felt as they did a really good job.

I'm kinda new to the corporate thing. With the Type in this plane costing so much, who are some employers out there that are paying for these ratings? How are other people getting these type ratings... From a guy who's never had to pay for one, my hat's off to those who have!!!

Beechjet is good swept wing jet time, so it definately looks good. FMS units and displays are very similar to the Beechjet, but the T-1A cockpit is kinda goofy, so not exactly the same look as the Premier. Would be an easy transition for you. If the owner/company is serious and you are too, they should absolutely pay for the type rating. At MOST, maybe a 1 yr contract stipulating you stay or pay.

The premier is much faster than the CJ'S however both are good aircraft. I work for a oil drilling contractor in Houston and we have a Premier that we have had for about 2 years. We also fly a Citation X I fly both aircraft and have never paid for a type. I would not reccommend you pay either. I will say this of the two aircraft I have the Premier is far more difficult to find pilots for. If you do get someone to pay for the type, they are selling alot of the Premiers. I can promise if you are flexible about where you will go for a job you will not be unemployed very long. I get requests from operators for my Premier pilots to do contract work all the time. If you have a problem get in touch I'll see what I can do to help you get with the right people.

I would strongly recommend that if you are going to pay for a type out of your own pocket, that you get a Citation CJ (CE-525) or a Citation 500 type (that type alone covers 9 different airplanes) there are many more Citations out there than anything else. Just my .02. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If the PIC's TYPE RATNG says : RA-390-----
Minimum Crew Required: 1 pilot and 1 co-pilot.
OR
If the PIC's TYPE RATING says: RA-390S----
Minimum Crew Required: 1 Pilot
If the PIC has a RA-390 rating, and not a RA-390S rating, the SIC is a required crewmember.
Some people fly two pilots in a Premier even if they have an S type rating. In this case, it would be just like a King Air 200, and SIC time could not be logged.
According to Flight Safety, about 50% (give or take) or so Premier pilots are not S typed. Some pilots get the S type later.
