Corporate Job Dilemma
I had written in a previous thread about me getting an opportunity to fly a Lear 60XR and recevied many favorable comments about the jet and such. Well as things normally go here in Europe, NOTHING is quick. I've heard some from the company but not as much as i would like.
Now I've been offered another position flying a new Citation CJ-3. I don't know a damn thing about the CJ-3 other than what is advertised on the internet. Any comments on this jet? What kind of oppotunities are there in the states for a Cj-3 type rated guy? thanks Lifter |
Their are already 251 CJ3's in operation throughout the world. The CJ3 type allows you to fly any of the CJ family ncluding the Citation Jet, CJ1, CJ2 and the future CJ4. Over 800 airplanes in service and many more to come. The majority operated in the US.
The CE525 type opens up many opportunities. A good solid economical airplane with a great Collins avionics suite. You will enjoy it. |
I flew the CJ3. It's a great airplane. It has very good performance, although it's not the rocket that the Lears are. I liked the Pro Line 21 with the integrated Collins FMS, some guys don't like it. It depends on what you were working with before.
It's short field qualities are outstanding. We flew one into a 3000' strip at 4000' elevation on a monthly basis. However, we could not takeoff with much of a load. So, we would drop off our pax at this airport, and then fly to an airport about 25 miles away with a 5000' runway where we would pick them up. It worked out well for the pax because they had a meeting in both towns. So, we would drop off at the short strip where they would have a meeting. Then, they would drive to the other town for their second meeting where we would pick them up for the next leg. PM me if you want more info on the plane. |
Recent 525 type
I was recently typed in the 525 as single pilot - finding it difficult to get an actual job - in the Southwest - It seems like most of the CJ's are overseas ? Doesn't seem to be much actual flying in the US - ?

There are plenty of CJs in the US, but there are just more 500 series airplanes out there than 525 series right now. What is your total time and time in type?
------------------ We take delivery of our CJ2+ in March and I cannot wait! |

If the FAA allows the Encore+ with FADEC, the V wing and ProLine21 to be the same time as the Citation I, then there's no reason whatsoever the CJ4 can't be the same type as the original CitationJet.
Same to be said about the common 757/767 type, A318-A321 type, and the 737 type... That said, no predicting what the FAA will do and I guess we'll see... |
525 time
I have just over 28 hrs as PIC in the 525 (Cj2 and Cj3) - 16K total all aircraft -- 5K PIC turbine -
|
CJ3 is an awesome airplane, for a straight wing. I've seen over 8000fpm during the winter, 850lbs total fuel burn at 450 and incredible shortfield performance.
