Simple Math

From the stated 95,000 lbs of fuel, to a 5500 mile range, that is almost 20lbs/mile. (17.3)

That's about two and a half gallons to the mile (2.57). Best guess is the Air Force pays about 2.60-2.80 a gallon (domestically; they don't get a break at foreign destinations, usually, unless it is a US Air Base or an ally with "contract" fuel prices).

That's $7.21 a mile, just for fuel. Factor in depreciation, maintenance, and the pittance the flight crew makes, and you can safely double it. (I'll call it $15.00)

Assuming it can average 420 kts, block to block, that is $6300 an hour. Almost $2 a second.

Use only for comparison; your mileage may vary. California mileage less. Does not include tax, dealer prep, and license. :)

Security and efficiency

These are the real reasons behind corporate flight departments. Dollar to dollar comparisons always fall short. The subjective costs (time, length of trip, locations etc.) are what one cannot see from the outside.

After 9 / 11, government discouraged high vis corporate execs from using public modes of transportation for security reasons (same reason our important elected reps use corporate air on "Fact finding" jaunts). It is very hypocritical of them to bash the execs use of corp. jets.

Now, if I am going to DC to beg for money, I may have to think about my mode of transport and maybe even my choice of lodging and restaurants.
