Whoa! What? They're sucking CPs out of MWS to UAVs, never to return? When did this start happening (the no return part)? Are/were you at KBAD or KMIB?

That sucks, only a year from upgrade!

I'd try like hell to get back to a T-38 IP job.

I would hit up every KC-135, KC-10, C-17, C-130 Unit you can find and try to get on with them..... THEN start looking for a civilian job.

BAD for FTU, then MIB later. To clarify, I volunteered for the 3 year "Alpha tour" but that was five years ago. We're stuck until released. More like two months from upgrade. I've regretted leaving when I did, but dodged all the post-ACM airshow crap those dudes have been going through ever since.

Oh yeah, forgot that upgrade was based on total time. Well, if it's any consolation, life in the Nuke world has not been pretty post Aug 07, especially up here at KMIB. We're all wondering how bad it's going to be in AFGSC.

I hadn't heard that you guys were being held up. That sucks. I guess the good news is that you should upgrade very soon after returning, if you decide to hang around. I honestly don't know what I'd do in your situation. It's a tough call. Once you pin on O-4, you'll be making $100K/year without the bonus. Nothing to sneeze at in today's economy.... If you're thinking about getting out, I'd highly recommend completing a Master's degree (if you haven't already) before bailing. Good luck to you! FWIW, I've got 5,000 hours and can't get hired. At least not yet....

Default Don't do it.

Figure out a way to stay in the military. That UAV job is going to be a lot better job than a starting 91/135 job. That is if you can even get a 91/135 job.

Or, maybe take that UAV experience and your TS and get paid in the civilian UAV market. Just a thought.

I agree, stay in! I'm a 5000hr, laid off, corporate guy who can't get a civilian job. Luckily, I'm in the guard part time. You can't support a family like you can on active duty.

Hi!

The problem with going fighter, is many of those guys/units are transitioning to RPVs (Remotely Piloted Vehicles).

This year over 1/2 of the Air Force's new pilots, and going direct to RPV, never to fly a manned aircraft during their careers.

On the upside, the AF now is getting more and more PC-12s, King Airs, and will get some kind of light attack aircraft, like the Brasilian Tucano, soon.
