written "expectations policy" to new hires ?

Hello

Our place is thinking about this, wanted to get some feedback from the audience.

We have hired a few guys outside of our typical proven "profile", and while they are good aviators, they kinda need a little guidance when they get on.

We are thinking about issuing all new hire pilots a written policy regarding the company's expectations of them and their role and responsibilities, in order to help clarify things (for their own benefit) and minimize problems.

The current system we have is a new hire "sticks to the side" of a few senior pilots and learns via osmosis. But I think this can be improved upon.

Thoughts ? Ideas ?

Do you not have an Operation Manual and a Training Program (even a basic one?)....and a day or two of basic indoc type stuff?

Other than that you really cant fix stupid....and would want to run any "expectations" past your HR people.

Don't hire strangers.

Good Luck!

I second the suggestion to have an ops manual and training program. For most corporate operations the training program doesn't have to be all that involved, just a day or so of basic indoc should suffice. Also, an ops manual doesn't have to be all that complicated, and it should make clear to your pilots what their responsibilities are. The NBAA has available on their site a basic outline for an ops manual that is easily tailored to your operation.
If you already have an ops manual and training program you may consider hiring pilots who know how to read an ops manual. Hiring outside your comfort zone can be surprisingly frustrating.
