Default WIA (Workforce Inv Act) - who pays the most?

Anyone have any idea how much states pay out from their WIA funds for a type rating? Looking at Florida or Utah at the moment but nobody in their office seems to have any idea.

WIA isn't Fed money anymore - it is FED tax dollars, that are dispersed to the States to use however they want. I. E. my state (I live in a small town) had no idea what I was talking about, regarding getting a type rating; but, would give me $50 for the books! My state uses that money for everyone (I think that includes job retraining at McDonalds!). On one of the forumns, a pilot was going through the same issues, that I ran into. He researched everything, put together a package (similar to a grant request) and got money for a new type rating.

Some states have authorized vendors for WIA type training (though you didn't indicate it, I thought you were asking in regards to money for a new type) and money for them. As I indicated, others don't.

Lastly, as this is Fed money; it is dispersed based on the fiscal year. The States start running out of this money, in the summer. So, ideally you're starting to look at the right time.

2 years ago, California paid for my 737 type rating worth $6K. I've read before that Hawaii paid more when Aloha closed up.

State requires letter from employer saying a type rating is required for the job offer bla bla bla.. Any suggestions on how to produce such document if no job offer has been extended, since hardly any corporate/charter employer will even consider you without a type?

I received WIA funding from Missouri in 2003 for a Citation 500 rating. They also required a letter from a possible employer. I provided 6 legitimate job postings that require a rating. That was sufficient for them.

FWIW Utah provides a measly $4000 (up from $2000). Back in 2004 it covered a $10k type. Would love to know what Florida caps out at...

Most flight training centers are familiar with WIA funds. They know all the secrets to filling out the paperwork and obtaining the funds, so I suggest picking a school and asking them about it.

In 2009, Michigan paid $10K for my Citation Type Rating and paid half of my hotel costs! Shortly after, I heard they ran out of money???
