Cold Call

Hey Guys,

There is a particular group that I am interested in flying for here in Texas but I have no connections. I am thinking about walking my resume through their front door and handing it over to their DO or CP for their perusal. Have any of you guys had any success with that method? I mean the worst thing they could say is "….not interested" or pull the lever to the trap doors and down I go into the gator pit. Has anyone had any luck with Linkedin? They are a little expensive but I guess in the realm of getting a great 91 job that cost is irrelevant. Any thoughts…experiences…? The only thing I have going for me is I am current on a type in their fleet.

Thanks

I think you have the right attitude about "the worst they can say is no". I've never had any personal success with this method but have never heard that it actually hurt someone's chances. LinkedIn is free for a basic membership, no?

Well, it's free to set up a account but if you want to communicate with someone then you have to upgrade your membership.

There are various threads on here describing preferred methods to join a corporate flight department, but in short...you have to show your face to them, show your serious interest in them. Go knock on their door and make new friends. Ask to have coffee or lunch and then stay in touch. If you don't hit it off it probably isn't somewhere you'd wanna work anyway. The fact that you have the type is slightly irrelevant to a good department - they mostly want you to be the right fit. Use LinkedIn, NBAA, whatever, just to get names and contacts, but unless you develop friendships you have very little chance to land a good corporate gig. Good luck!

All Chief Pilots/Directors have been in your position in their careers. Try to call first to be sure they will be available, but a cold call might work, just the chance no one will be around. Even if the Boss is not around meeting a tech or office manager could be an in.

I secured an interview the ole fashioned way, I earned it, by way of 12 pizza's on a glorious Friday in the middle of February. Food and a select beverage always work in my opinion.

Well, the place is gated like Folsom. Guess I'll try linkedin.

I'm a fan of the walk-in method, no experience w/ Linkdin. Let us know how that goes, good luck!

Which company is it you're looking at? Sometimes its not what you know but who you know. That's how I got my corporate job. I also recently helped someone, a guy that used to fuel my airplane in San Angelo, get a corporate job through my few connections at another company. I didn't know the guy very well, but a few phone calls later he got an interview and got the job. All because he knew a guy who knew a guy.
