One thing to consider... There are some good corporate gigs out there, better than any pilot job. There are A LOT of crappy corporate jobs out there, far worse than being at a halfway decent regional.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread.
Your tone and passion come across a "know-it-all, harsh and cocky" at first. These guys who are new to the discussion will figure you out soon.
As for the Corp guys listed earlier including myself, we have the rare corporate jobs that won't see our departure until retirement or the good Lord calls us home. We may or may not make as much as that Legacy 777 CA, but money isn't everything in this world. Even though money does make this world go around!
The big renumeration numbers you are talking about includes money that these pilots won't see till retirement. You are including their 401K matching and 401K company contributions in the annual dollars. That is what is throwing these guys for a loop. Whether it all adds up to 350K-400K+ all depends on the pilots carrier, desire to work the system and seniority.
Now with that said......for every job that Red, Ri830, Galaxy and 7X have there are 10+ that suck large testicular units!
So is there an end to this all? Not sure...but what I think we can all agree on is that each guy needs to choose what is best for himself and family. These guys may or may not have the timing, connections or quals to get on the Legacies. Therefore, getting on with the regionals, entry corporate or 135 is what will build them up to where they want to be.
As for me, myself and I......I personally don't want to go to the Legacies even if it meant I would make more money. I don't want to deal with Unions, Management, whiney FA's, whiney Paxs and the other "stuff". I like the family I work for and the flying we do. I pay my bills and my kids get the vacations they deserve. For me to ask for more would be selfish and greedy as moving to 121 would take a huge hit in $$$ and QOL for years till you rebuild the seniority.
Now.....thats my opinion. That and a nickel will buy you a sour pickle.

No seriously now, sorry I do come across that way, it is even harder without the body language feed back.
I do shoot out absolute statements, and that is wrong.
Believe me I know I am here to learn, just like everybody else in life.
I get very fired up when somebody wants career advices, as I really wish the best for them. And I do not even offer good a example, as I too have a corporate job that is very hard to quit for QOL and initial pay cut, to go to a major. But I am trying more seriously now.

So I'd just like to clear a few things up here with my personal circumstances. I flew corporate for a couple of years before coming to the "majors". Our flight department was a business based FD with very few weekend or holiday trips. We did a lot of day turns with probably 3 to 5 nights a month on overnights. Sometimes more but it was rare. The one thing I HATED about my old FD was that the boss wanted us at the hangar from 0700 to 1600 Monday through Friday whether we had any flying going on or not. That was kind of PITA but I'll tell you what we had some seriously clean and detailed airplanes in the hangar it was all we had to do to kill the time if there wasn't any flying or maintenance going on!
For three years after I got on with airlines I did contract flying for my old fd. The money was good but it got to a point where I simply didn't have enough time and energy to do both so I quit the contract stuff.
Now on to some of the statements made about airline flying and the lifestyle. I have been with my current airline for 17 going on 18 years. I am stuck on reserve as an F/O. I work every weekend, holiday and fly every horrible all nighter POS trip you can imagine, bottom of the barrel stuff. If there is a captain with a personality disorder other undesirable trait that nobody else will fly with you can bet that i work with him or her on a regular basis. After all what are reserves for anyhow? So there is no WAY to say that a 20 or a 30 or a 40 year guy will sitting in tall cotton at an airline. Maybe they will maybe they won't it just depends on the airline and the unique circumstances that occur during your career there.
I guess there are a few captains at my outfit who can tickle the $400K number if they are supreme scamers and know how to effectively work the premium trip pool. But it is by no means common for a Cap to make that kind of dough. As far as F/O's making $300K? Probably not even if they are supreme scamers. I guess they could come close but the average guy does not make that kind of money.
So in a nut shell, days off, money, lifestyle they all depend on where you're working and when you got hired there are no constants in this industry for either a corporate FD or an airline.
I've been a captain at this airline, I've been an instructor and check airmen at this airline. Things were good until they weren't good. Nobody has a crystal ball, and life is like a box of chocolates. You never really know what you are going to get.
PS
Here is the face so nobody gets mad.

I believe you are at UAL.
I put it here so we start with the right foot
When you mention a few captains tickling the 400k, do you include the all remuneration package?
The APC site shows most junior captain hired 1996 form UAL and 2006 form CAL. You should be pretty close to upgrade if you want to; Are you stuck on reserve or are you biding that?
Over all, do you regret not having stayed in corporate, (cleaning and airport std/by ready aside)?
How many days a month you fly, and with how many days off?
What is the on call policy?
Which way would you direct a newbie?
Please give me more reasons to take the initial pay cut.
And sorry for the many questions.
RI830, am I doing better on my social skills?
