ICAO sic type rating requirement
Hey all. I have a question I'm researching on a bit of a time crunch. I couldn't find a thread here on the subject.
Situation: I obtained the SIC only privilege for a business jet via the FAR 61.55 method, for a job which will fly soon to Europe. I've been in/out of S. America without a problem, but Europe is a new one... Question: does this meet the pilot requirements for the ICAO SIC type rating rule? I have found a couple of articles online stating that the FAA has filed an exception, it seems to not be enforced too much (which I am skeptical of), and that the SIC privilege only type (FAR 61.55) is what the FAA recommends and will suffice. So, is this allowed and will I have no problem or am I setting myself up for some trouble on the ground in Europe? BTW I am already aware if the need to have the International Ops training completed. Thanks in advance |
It'll be fine, if you're not the PIC.

Thanks GF.
Does this mean it's legal, the PIC and company will not face action and fines? It's something that would be useful to know in my negotiations with them. |
That was the point if 61.55 SIC type rating--to meet the ICAO requirement for both pilots to have types. It does have to be an N-reg plane. That said, why don't you have an ATP with the PIC rating, it's not hard to get?

Ditto. Thanks again.
I got this offer late last week, they needed the SIC for flights into S. America so we rushed and got it done yesterday. Hopefully PIC will follow now that they're out of this scheduling jam and can complete their flights. Isn't PIC done at FS/Simcom etc..? That's the part I'm hoping to negotiate to be sooner than later; 12 months is their offer. |
