That - with their huge preexisting debt - is a huge hole to climb out of.
Does that make the flow programs worthless?

They had a ton of debt before this. Not sure what you're trying to say.

has nothing to do with flow. the only thing flow is directly impacted by is lack of hiring. which can be impacted by mainline furloughs.
now, if traffic counts do not return, I can see big AA saying sending half-empty 320s to OKC or ICT are not profitable, lets use our regional flights. rinse, repeat, nationwide.
some argument exists that this pandemic will further secure the regional airlines and the ULCC/LCC's. the only issue would be range, aka JFK to LAX stuff.
if Big-3/etc. do not hire for 3-5 years, or more, the regionals may become a final-stop career destination potentially. the new normal may be RJ Captain 100k a year, and travel benefits for the family = be happy clap your hands.
my opinion

I really don't know, the current space only uses them to augment an operation, not carry it. RJ standalone carriers have been tried before, only to fail. I don't think they're a good business to be in, which is probably why Parker owns 3 of them.
