How protective these might be - and for how long - is an unknown. But most flu immunizations are only 50% effective or so. If it keeps the R0 under 1.0, the outbreaks won’t widely propagate.

That may be the only thing which will put a lid on this.

Better hope we have one by then, the fed (and anybody else) needs to pull out all the stops.

Just do a placebo. Have it be vitamin C and let people get back to life. Keep on preaching personal hygiene and common sense and people would come back in spades.

There actually IS an argument to be made for this. Yeah, it’s deceitful, but no more so than the CDCs initial communication that the members of the general public wearing masks “will not enhance public safety” back when they were desperately trying to conserve the masks available for healthcare personnel, who could have (and arguably SHOULD have) been better protected by the CWDE masks sitting in military deployment bags pretty much throughout DOD.

I notice that New York is now making face masks MANDATORY on public transit, in stores, and in other places where it is difficult to maintain “social distancing.”
