We need testing
#21
Honestly given that it seems millions of people have already been infected and recovered without even knowing they had it, testing might just be a waste of time. All this does is pump up the Numbers. If we stop sensationalizing the numbers and just move on we can open up the economy.

Biden, is that you?!
Where have you been all my life? If you'd been here a few years ago you could have helped us schmucks figure out the AWA/US seniority list.
AA, please, please lower the early retirement age by a decade!

The “poor man’s” answer to countrywide testing (certainly where airline travel is concerned) is temperature checking. Every passenger at every checkpoint, administered by a federal agency. How many pax would this screen out? Not sure...let’s hope than if an individual is 100-plus they already aren’t feeling well enough to travel and are staying home. But very minimum, it will make healthy customers feel more secure getting on the jets. Why aren’t we ALREADY doing this??

The White House's resistance to implement a federal testing program is going to drive our economy right into the ground. Furloughs.
Testing IS the key to building passenger confidence to fly again. Until then, our load factors and revenue is going to dwindle.
The guy doesn't want to listen to experts and STILL thinks he knows it all.
Unbelievable.

No reason we cant do something like this as passenger enter the airport. A quick temp check at the TSA checkpoints seems easy enough.

Testing everyone is equally pointless, unless you are doing the antibody test.
Let's say someone goes to the doctor and gets the test, it could likely come back negative. But, as they were waiting to be tested, they were exposed to someone with the virus. A few days later, they become contagious themselves and infect everyone around them, even though they have a certificate that they do not have it.
With the antibody test, it would need be repeated for everyone that comes back negative until they eventually they show positive. It is only a 1-time thing for those that come back positive.
Anti-body testing is the key. But since there are over 30 different strains already and the antibody tests do not take all of these into consideration, those too are pointless.

The test that Abbott made gives a positive result in something like 7 min and a negative result in 13 min. I don't know how fast they're cranking out these machines but when they have enough that'll be a huge help. Combine that test with a simple fingerstick test that indicates antibodies. I think some overseas locations are giving "Covid-19 immune" certificates to those with the antibodies.
The Abbott test is being used at the White House, anyone who will be in the same room as the President has to be tested once a week.

Thus far the mortality rate is 2%. That rate skyrockets in people with comorbitites. Seeing that vaccine trials have just begun it stands to reason we are 18 months out from a workable solution with vaccines. Following epidemiology 101, further containment to mitigate the spread is warranted but only in specific situations with those more at risk. This all means that the full economic opening will be delayed a bit further. Noting this, some airlines are absolutely going to enter Chapter 11. They will be Sun Country, Frontier, JetBlue and Spirit. The best positioned to come out of this on the other side are AA, DL, UA and WN. In that order. Business travel will absolutely return first and far faster than any VFR or leisure travel which also bodes well for AA with their 8 billion war chest coupled with government funding. It's defintely not the time to be a LCC/ULCC pilot. Those at AA will benefit the most.
