33 US States Have Contained COVID-19

As of the time of this posting, the 33 US states have Rt values lower than 1.0, which according to the CDC qualifies as "containing" the virus. NY has the lowest Rt value of 0.78; AZ has the highest of 1.21. This is great news and is, imo, the only metric we should be using to determine the effectiveness of our efforts thus far.

Should be noted that just because the numbers are below zero doesn’t guarantee the virus is on its way out. The number is based on human behavior, the states that opened up quickly not meeting guidelines and those that have populations not as willing to wear masks and social distance have the higher numbers. Numbers that technically require another shutdown as it will overwhelm the healthcare system very soon, AZ for example. Moral of the story the more we follow the health guidelines the quicker we will get out of this, the less we follow.. well you can see it in the Rt value in the link.

Yes I agree. However with so much doom and gloom it is a morsel of good news (and I was surprised to see so many states "in the green" - on the chart at least).

Definitely not on its way out just quite yet., Hawaii spiked recently. Up to 9-10 avg cases daily most likely due to a parade they held after holding a steady 0 for a good bit prior to their little get together. They quickly reigned their folks back in a little and then they’ll get restarted. So which state is going to host the first packed Sports Arena, probably get some concrete aftermath data from that. Seems like it will be an up and down event as things get better overall. Crawl, walk, run, trip...walk, run, sprint.
50 different states, 50 different ways and unique in their leadership and populace.

Now that we've moved away from ventilators as part of the treatment protocol it is going to be much harder to overwhelm the healthcare system.

Should be noted that anyone making a statement like this ought not to be opining on the subject at all. Rt rates never go below zero and the virus is on its way out anytime the rate is less than 1.0. While that number might change as circumstances change, anyone waiting for it to go below zero will have a damn long wait.

I think the whole thing is a bit overblown, but even so mass party-atmosphere get-togethers are obviously a bad idea right now. So no parades, mardi gras, music festivals, etc.

Combine close proximity with alcohol, it's pretty obvious that common-sense will fall by the wayside.

Stadiums venues should be able to function at reduced capacity with social D and assigned seats.

I meant below one. And no again, it doesn’t guarantee that it’s on its way out as it’s a behavioral number. Not sure you read the important part of my point, which is it will be damn long wait if you don’t follow the health guidelines.

Well. Let's not get too excited here. There are states like NC talking about reinstating lockdowns:

Also, AZ (which has been open for quite some time now) is saying there's a spike in cases. I believe there was an article saying hospitals were at 84% capacity with cases.

It’s looking like the uptick in NC cases is in the areas where mass demonstrations were held over the last two weeks. The rest of the state is fine.
