A Word From The Young People

Ok, so to the boomers that may have been offended by this. Both my grandfathers served in the military. I’ve spoken to them both about this and they feel awful watching their grandkids take the brunt of this. They also didn’t throw the ol’ “greatest generation” trope at me either. Because it doesn’t apply.
Also, if we’re gonna go that route. Then what about the young fresh veterans off tours in the Middle East, who used the G.I. Bill to get through college and flight training. They just had the door slammed.
My long manifesto wasn’t “let the oldies die”. It was, let them just stay home and I’ll keep the world turning.

But if not - if all you've done is complain here on APC - then I have some bad news: your desired change won't ever happen.

I'm neither boomer nor millennial, but I am genuinely curious: What, exactly, do you expect APC to do regarding your problem? The denizens of APC are powerless to effect the change you seek; they can only offer pity along with some healthy skepticism and a little mockery mixed in. Have you contacted your elected government officials? Perhaps you've taken other steps which may have some influence on bringing about the change you seek.

Every generation has a cross of some sort. This bug and up and coming bugs are going to completely rearrange life as we know it. This may be the easy part. To be honest, I am glad that I am in the bottom of the ninth.

60% of Houston Covid admissions are under age 50.
Family member is a physician. He recently did a c-section an a Covid mom who was on a ventilator. She was 18. No obvious risk factors, normal BMI.
Instead of hitting the bars a 21 year old who thinks that this is not their problem would do well to read up on the Spanish Flu. Spoiler - it started as an old person disease, but it didn't stay that way

The best aircraft we had in 1918 was Curtiss Bi-planes. Last time I checked we have the ability to go 17,000mph+ and go to other planets. So putting 1918 Pandemics on the same table as a 2020 Pandemic is crazy. 100 years of innovation and technology.

- An infirmed senior at the nursing home is attended to by the young, single mom nurse who shops at the local Publix.
- The nurse checks out her groceries in the lane with the cashier who's been working doubles because the local Publix has had a lot of people quit.
- The cashier recently checked out Karen who refused to wear her mask because she was told on right-wing media that masks have bacteria in them.
- Karen recently attended a "COVID is a hoax" party with all of her denier friends.
- One of the party attendees is COVID positive.
It would be much easier, and faster, if we just took some common sense mitigation efforts (masks, hygiene, and social distancing) to help stop the infection rate.
Pretending it's not a threat only prolongs the pandemic and further threatens your job.

Spoiler Alert: The Spanish Flu happened while women were still barred from voting. The Spanish Flu happened while we still bled people. The Spanish Flu happened when we used to lobotomize less than normally intelligent people. The Spanish Flu comparison is RIDICULOUS, a hundred years removed of ridiculousness. I have read up on it btw.

That’s what you got out of that? That’s the problem with you deniers, you focus on some obscure point and forget the other 90% of the hard truth.

Pretty sure this post gave me COVID.
While I agree with much of what you say, the boomers are currently running the show (for better or worse). If y’all want/need to go to the bar so you can tongue dart some sloots, have at it—but infection rates are going to skyrocket. Politicians are going to panic and lock the country down again, people are going to panic and not fly, and everyone is going to be worse off for it.
You can argue the validity of it until you’re blue in the face, but the unfortunate reality is that in today’s sociopolitical climate, more cases = more restrictions. Take your pick.

I see a lot of people on APC advocate similarly. This imaginary barrier between the vulnerable and the productive doesn't exist. We're all interconnected at some degree. (And Kevin Bacon is the key to it all.)

I’m also not a denier of COVID. I admit this is dangerous for my grandparents.
