Those who want to succeed in business will continue to travel. Remote meetings work when they have to, but there is a better way.

I wonder if a lot of workers are at home not really working. Productive workers will always be productive, but there are a lot of slackers in the workforce getting paid to sit around the house doing as little work as possible. It’s a lot easier to procrastinate when you have all the household distractions.

Teleworking is very much here to stay, but it doesn’t exactly mean the complete end to business travel and/or in-person work.

I have a few friends who work for JP Morgan in NYC. They think that promotions will go to those willing to work in the office, travel as necessary, and get extensive in-person interaction with upper management. There’s already a stigma developing against those who choose to work exclusively from home. They think JPM will trend toward a hybrid model, where the expectation is you come in to the office for X days a week and can work from anywhere for Y days. Anecdotal? Absolutely.

There was recently a case in (I think) MI where a witness testifying on zoom was acting unusually and shifting her eyes back and forth off camera and back. The prosecution called the police and had them go to the witness' house where they found the defendant off camera intimidating the witness.

Court will be back in session ASAP.

Ha, are you sure about that these days?! Common sense like that left the building awhile ago!

I’m 99.9% sure that was a criminal case (at least the one I saw)

Managers and execs are extremely leery of wholesale telework, and of course their opinion is the one that counts. Comments from some execs...

"remote work doesn’t work well for those who want to hustle.”

“an aberration that we are going to correct as soon as possible.”

"employees who are “uber-ly engaged” with their companies would want to go to the office at least two-thirds of the time."

" business leaders had a strong incentive to change the status of staffers who are rarely in the office from full-time to contractor"

Paywall alert!
