150,000 Americans Dead
Well, it's not even August 1st, and we're here. To be fair, this has exceeded all of our expectations with how much death this virus can bring. And we're not even close to being done yet. The fall and winter are going to be absolutely devastating without a major course correction.
It's a trip to go back to when the outbreak first started in March and April to read the predictions of where this was going. I'm curious if some of those early deniers have evolved their positions. I would guess not. Here's Speed Select's post from two days ago:
So obviously he hasn't evolved from his position from months ago. One thing he's absolutely wrong on. It's not survival of the fittest, it's survival of the richest. The rich will have the resources to remove themselves from high risk scenarios where the poor will not. The rich will have access to high quality healthcare to keep them breathing, and the poor will not.
This natural selection nonsense is complete and utter propaganda. We aren't living on the plains of the Sub-Saharan savanna. We have a very unequal society which completely takes Darwinism off the table.
So coldly in return, Speed Select, I say take your economic hardship like a man. Your poor excuses for the deaths of hundreds of thousands are revolting and prejudicial at its core.
Those who prioritize the economy over health will get neither.

Coldly, I think natural selection will tamp down the lethality of the disease over the next generation or two (20-40 years). We will have to accept that those who are immunocompromised or live unhealthy lifestyles will be at a much higher risk to this disease than the more resilient, or watch the global economy collapse. Maybe this will ultimately end smoking and encourage healthy living. But science will rule, and natural selection will ultimately breed a healthier species.
Until then, it’s masks, Zoom, a depressed global economy, and maybe a world war (these are the economic conditions that historically preceded WW). Humanity has become excessively risk averse, and prioritizes safety above everything else, including livelihoods. I really think we’re looking at 10+ years of stunted growth as the global marketplace transforms, and instability to the global order as aggressors look to take advantage of the weakened global condition.

Nope, with every day that passes I am less and less a believer in the deadliness of Covid compared to everything else we deal with.
I'd much rather take my chances with Covid than lose my income, college funds, home equity, personal freedoms, and way of life...
Does that basement, you're in, have any windows Wutface?

I assume this is a clue that you think that all the COVID hype will disappear after the election is over. I've seen you and a couple others throw out this conspiracy theory.
Let me ask you a question:
When it's November 5th, or December 5th, or January 5th, and the COVID deaths are just as bad as they ever were, will you come back to this forum to apologize?
That would be nice.
