Hoping the Aviation Sector will Collapse

If you look at how political Covid19 has become, you can't help wonder if this was all part of the "Master Plan".

Read this article. I can't believe we have these 'types' amongst us

So the article went from basically abolishing small airports to racial parallels...smh

Not a surprise, the author is a Professor with a PhD. What is a surprise is she is staggeringly innocent of knowledge on air transport and occupies a chair endowed by an air carrier.

Author is a Dr. and serves on boards advising transportation and airports...goes on to say that there are more efficient methods of travel and says busses are more efficient than airplanes, right. "The promise" of aviation as a career? Nothing is a promise for anyone. Most, if not all, industries require hard work, study, and commitment to make it. All is earned, nothing is promised. Then she goes right to the jump of only the exclusive and rich fly privately and everything costs 100K for pilots. Drops some minority stats to further her argument that those that fly are just rich, white men. It can't be possible or conceivable to her that there are now, and have been thousands before; guys/gals of any background and race working multiple jobs, taking loans, and working hard to earn their wings. As most in our business know, flying is more blue collar than "lives of the rich and famous." She thinks it'll be better for private aviation to go away because she has a problem with rich people spending their money how they please, but completely ignores the regular middle class people, of all races, it will affect if it goes away. Fueler, gone. Mechanic, gone. Crew services and catering, gone. This article misses the forest for the trees on so many levels.

The author needs to get her money back on all of those degrees because she obviously has **** for brains.

Here is a summary of what I just read:

Where did you see that she's hoping for the industry's collapse? I didn't read that anywhere. This is a ridiculous thread title in my opinion.

There are inefficiencies in the air transportation system that should be considered, and as she noted the CARES Act has been a rather crude remedy:
"the first round of CARES Act funding favored small airports serving no more than one-quarter of one percent of the nation’s passengers or functioning as airports for private aviation and flight training. Some small airports received enough funds to operate for several years while some of the busiest airports received enough to cover their operating budgets through July."

As a taxpayer, I think that funding could probably be used better in other ways. That said, I think she conflates several issues and falls down the social justice rabbit hole without making a very compelling point. It doesn't seem to be a very well thought out article.

Nevertheless, I don't know why everyone has to jump to presuming the author wants the industry to die or that it's all part of some secret "Master Plan." Are you implying there's some sort of conspiracy at play? I don't get it.

This was an opinion piece, and you have every right to disagree with her opinion. I also disagree with the thrust of the article, but I also think she made some points worth thinking about. It would be nice if people could learn to disagree without assuming the worst, and drawing parallels to Nazi's on literally no basis (really SonicFlyer? getting a Phd makes you a Nazi?)

galaxy flyer 07-28-2020 06:41 AM

While I can’t argue that a PhD makes one a Nazi, PhDs typically think their degree gives them some special place to tell the general public how to live, how to spend their money, which pretty close. PhDs often don’t have the common sense God gave a horse.

My takeaway was that regional airline service is the root of systemic racism.

So we should close the small airports and get rid of regionals? I guess that wouldn't be all bad...
