What have you done for me lately? Voters have short memories (which is why our elected officials have terms > 1 year).

Also, the media has actually been highlighting the plight of tens of thousands of soon-to-be-furloughed airline workers, which puts the whole thing in the spotlight a bit more.

Not looking good...

Stimulus negotiations latest: Hopes for a deal seem dim

By Lauren Fox, CNN

Updated 8:44 AM EDT, Fri October 23, 2020

Washington(CNN)The week started with a self-imposed deadline, and it appears it will end without a stimulus deal.

After fits and starts, the negotiations between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the White House's chief negotiator, have hit another roadblock with aides behind the scenes telling CNN that while the prospects for a deal Monday were always slim, they are growing harder to imagine now.

Bottom Line: The chances of passing a stimulus bill out of the House before the November 3 Election Day drop to virtually zero if a real, substantive deal doesn't come together by Friday night and isn't in writing by the weekend. And there are absolutely no indications that the legislative work that needs to happen to make this real is happening.

it doesn't matter

reported on another thread is Delta sees back to normal in 2021

PSP program has been determined to be not needed. We acknowledge it served a purpose in March. The return to normalcy has begun and further federal assistance is not needed, as the industry is beginning to walk on its own again.

You think things will be back to normal in 2021? You seriously think that?

Me? I do not.

Others do: DAL CEO says 2021 should be normal

Time for the airlines to earn their keep and start competing in the marketplace. Southwest is already on the prowl. I wouldn’t get caught waiting for any additional PSP support if I were the other airlines. Besides, Pelosi and Mnuchin could agree to a $3 Trillion stimulus package tomorrow and it still wouldn’t get past McConnell and other Republican members of Congress.

I'll admit to not reading the whole thread but my take is more like "other do"... as in, one forum poster.

I think that's going to be the narrative unfortunately. International travel will be down for a while which will hurt the big 3 far more than anyone else. But since Southwest/Jetblue/Spirit don't need help, then no one does.

Exactly. SWA has announced 9 new destinations lately, including IAH, MIA, and ORD. They need to pick off leisure travelers. They smell blood in the water. They’re targeting AAL and UAL.

Any airline that doesn’t have to cross train senior guys to a different type has a HUGE advantage in this environment over any airline that does. The Big Three just have the wrong business model for THIS environment at THIS time, however advantageous the business and international flying and multiple fleet Type might be in more normal times.
