Neanderthals at Risk for Severe Covid
Fun fact for the day.
Actually this matters because our Cro-magnon ancestors did interbreed with Neanderthals, enough that some of us still have Neanderthal genes.
This may explain why Africa is doing so well despite lower standards of living and less access to healthcare... almost no Neanderthal genes in native Africans.

Yea, it could be any of a number of things. Will be interesting to see what they ultimately determine is the cause of the variable severity in different populations, could be very informative for future potential pandemic bugs.

A lot seems to point to vitamin D being a big help with COVID. If Africans get more direct sunlight, then that might be a factor.

I did a 23andme test and one of the things they trace is Neanderthal DNA. Because of the above mentioned interbreeding, humans today carry something like 2-5 percent. My test result showed that I had more Neanderthal DNA than 96% of the human population.
My wife laughed for quite a while after reading that.
