I'd say if the COVID shot's made it to phase 3 it's probably safe enough. Won't tell ya if it actually works, but unlikely to kill or incapacitate you.

Thanks. I’m on a longer term cola and was about to sign up for the Moderna trial. Most human subjects are getting around 4k a month. Would have run it by my AME but it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t know that. He’s a bit of a rubber stamper.

Immunizations – FAA Medical
While there is no published FAA position regarding immunizations, the FAA has suggested that a wait period of as much as 24 hours be utilized to observe any adverse effects. While there is no reporting requirements, pilots who have been immunized may wish to provide a note from the prescribing physician at the time of their next FAA exam.

The issue in this case is serving as a test subject for a not-yet certified trial vaccine.

. Yes, this was just to clarify when a vaccine becomes cleared by the FDA then pilots can and will be able to fly. The vaccines are in the last phase of trials and likely will be given to early recipients very soon so this is very applicable information to have as we are possibly only weeks away.

Meh, everyone that comes over from the military has had a series of Anthrax shots of questionable efficacy that was on the verge of being discontinued for servicemembers before (the FBI later determined) one of the lead scientists mailed anthrax to everyone to save his program. None of us are passing out/dying on the job, although there are a lot of anecdotal claims that it's somehow or another linked to Gulf War syndrome.

So, we can argue that the "FBI posited" but simply in no way can we claim the FBI proved that statement.

Just for the record, the National Academy of Sciences drafted a report that called the methodology and results of the FBI's finding that Ivins was the likely culprit into question, in addition to expert testimony (Ivins' coworkers) who've said that it would highly unlikely that the spores used by Ivins could have been manufactured independently by Ivins in his time in the lab.
So, we can argue that the "FBI posited" but simply in no way can we claim the FBI proved that statement.

Absolutely correct. Sort of like them claiming that Richard Jewell was a likely suspect in the Atlanta bombing for three months - only to have it discovered that Eric Rudolf was the real culprit.
The FBI have long enjoyed an unwarranted reputation for competence and integrity built primarily on the Efram Zimbalist TV series. People tend to forget that it was the house that J Edgar Hoover built, a man with no real compunctions about illegal surveillance, blackmailing politicians, and even trying to blackmail a prominent civil rights figure into committing suicide.
I’m not claiming the FBI are all inherently evil or anything of the sort, just that their reputation for excellence is largely undeserved, they leak like a sieve, and somebody needs to go to jail for the lies they told the FISA court.

Update from ALPA:
December 9, 2019
COVID Vaccine Update for U.S. Pilots
ALPA expects that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will grant an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine as early as this week and the Moderna vaccine later in the month, and we have received numerous calls and DARTs from members asking the status of flight crews taking the vaccines.
As of today, the FAA has not provided any updated guidance to allow pilots to use any COVID vaccine. The FAA currently considers use of a COVID vaccine by pilots to be medically disqualifying.
However, the ALPA Aeromedical Office has been working closely with the FAA, and we expect an announcement of a new policy shortly after the first vaccine receives an EUA.
ALPA has also been working to get flight crews voluntary access to the vaccine once it becomes available to essential workers and is approved for your use by the FAA.
