Difficult to justify NOT allowing pilots to be vaccinated. A couple of days grounding afterwards - especially after the second shot - might be prudent though. Avoid having to have some CP have to decide whose non availability is valid or invalid. Besides, those of us on reserve could really use the flying.

There wasn’t much waiting around for the FAA to make a decision after emergency use authorization. FAA approved it before anyone even had a chance to get it.

I saw on Friday that at least one vaccine was approved by the FDA, so I'd assume the FAA reciprocated this. There likely isn't any FAA "approval" necessary for a vaccine that's approved by the FDA, only that you can't participate in "trials" of unproven/unapproved medicines (like we had going on prior to this).

Red tape cut. Often times the FDA takes years for review. Sure there are deep state bureaucrats that are deeply upset all the procedures and paperwork they normally do were cut. They must feel threatened.

Man, if it's anything like the Army they're probably just glad that all the mandatory but unimportant bull**** that normally gets in the way is like priority number 97 for however long this took.

Bureaucrats, in general, care about adhering to each and every step in the process, in excruciating detail. It is more about process, not a result or accomplishment. They hate to make a decision. They could be held accountable for a bad decision, but not for following the regulatory process. How much do you look forward to your visit to your DMV?

Exclamation 48-Hour Waiting Period

Looks like the FAA will require a 48-hour waiting period after vaccination before flying...

Yep. Our company has already told us to do it on our days off because we don't have the staffing to cover the 48 hours down time... while we have a bunch of people on furlough.

If it were me, I'd get the shot at the first opportunity. Not interested in extending my covid life by one minute more than necessary.
