... probably won’t work very well. Baye’s theorem tends to bite you in the butt.

of course, if it gives the governor of Hawaii cover to step back from his insane restrictions, it may help the airline industry.

Making people "feel good" is the purpose of the vaccine effort. The placebo effect will make many people think all is well and they can return to normalcy even if the efficacy of the vaccine is questionable and, if given enough time for the natural burnout of a virus, unnecessary.
Ironic that the public at large that thinks and acts with a herd mentality will ultimately be saved by herd immunity...

I see. And did America do anything about the first two leading causes of death, cancer and heart disease?
Heart disease is genetic, sure, but there's also diet and lifestyle aspects of it. Did we ever change what we eat or how much we exercise? Nope. We eat garbage. We're fat as eff and sedentary as hell. And when someone dies of heart disease, it's typically over 70, so we say "Aw sucks. Poor grandma/pa. At least they had a good long life."
Now I FULLY understand cancer and heart disease are NOT infectious. That said, every year heart disease kills 600k+ and cancer kills 600k+. That's 1.2 million dead Americans from these two things, and no one even bats an eye at cancer and heart disease. We write it off as death from a natural cause and say "aw shucks."
Yes, I understand Covid IS infectious. But deaths are still deaths. 215k dead Americans so far, and people panicked and lost their mind. The reality is the death rate is < 0.8%. Just looking at numbers f you're under age 60, you're going to be fine. The huge majority will get sick and recover.
