I’m 100% against lockdowns, but that does require the selfish idiots among us to wear masks in certain places. Also, the increased cases are absolutely a big deal and already leading to increased hospitalization rates in Colorado.

If you want to talk about trends then we have to mention the current death rate trend will only add roughly 54k deaths by the end of the year using the current 7-day average of 700. I’ve personally not seen anyone predict a doubling of deaths and instead predictions seem to be 400k or less (which isn’t a doubling). Regardless, given the initial prediction of 2M deaths and countless other predictions completely missing their mark, I think it’s reasonable to assume an expected massive increase in deaths will not materialize. Look at what happened over the summer; huge spike in cases but no corresponding spike in deaths.

Italy’s COVID infection curve is attached with the August 17th mandate indicated by the vertical line.
Not sure it’s wise to put faith in mask efficacy. The good news is the virus seems to be much less deadly than before and herd immunity will eventually occur. How much humans want to fight nature and destroy themselves in the process still seems to be unsettled.
Belgium made face masks mandatory on August.
