Default Silver Lining: No Flu?

Being at least somewhat less contagious than covid, the flu may be severely limited by anti-covid measures...

I think we'll never know. The CDC has said they aren't going to collect flu data this year.

"Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this system will suspend data collection for the 2020-21 influenza season."

I've noticed a lot fewer sick people out and about these days. From airports to grocery stores. Three obvious reasons:

1) More public shaming for being out while sick (and fewer repercussions from employers.)

2) People have learned to be smarter when it comes to hygiene and germs.

3) Businesses have been reducing touchpoints.

I think all of these will continue for a few years, and then slowly fade away.

I've been expecting a very light flu season... and really a light cold season as well. All these COVID measures will reduce the other things. I did go ahead and get my flu shot though just in case. I'd hate to battling the flu and COVID at the same time.

I thought COVID was “just the flu” and that it would all be over after the election? Dang, that’s what I get for getting my information from APC I guess!

Did someone in this thread say that at some point? Or are you just inserting your own issues here?

Nope, not in this particular thread. If you use the search function though you will find what you seek.

Interesting, although it does raise a question about the narrative that rising COVID cases are being blamed on people not following anti-COVID measures. If the rise in COVID cases is due to people not following guidance how is it that flu cases are down in those areas due to people following COVID guidance? Should we not be seeing a rise in flu in areas that have a rise in COVID?

I saw an old clip of The Tonight Show where Fallon and a guest took sandwiches into the audience and the audience shared the sandwiches, “take a bite and pass it down”

It’s funny how you see things so differently now.
