He's old school. He can sacrifice 1,000 union jobs for a splashy environmental headline. Even the AFL/CIO boss didn't hammer him very hard on that.

But he can't sacrifice several hundred thousand union jobs across the airline, travel, and tourism industries. That's cutting too deep into the base.

Floating trial balloons on this stuff may be some recon by fire... a bunch of CEO's (and presumably union leaders) demanding an audience at the White House probably answers his question. I hope.

The covid data says shut it all down now, to strive for zero covid deaths.

The economic (and re-election) data says something else entirely.

Being mayor of a small town and being in DC, in any political position are light-years apart. Be unpopular in SBN, who cares; be unpopular in a cabinet job and you can bring down an administration or be sent home to said town.

And a possibly unnecessary field trip at that. Domestic testing appears to be put to rest......for now.

"U.S. officials told Reuters that it does not appear the administration will move forward with requiring domestic testing at this point, but stressed officials could revisit the idea if conditions changed."

I’m sure he made big decisions on which sidewalks to replace. Or how to setup his toy train track. Pretty nice feeling to have that he now makes major decisions that has a direct effect on our livelihood. I heard the potholes in South Bend are horrible.
