The CDC is not recommending against it. "Dr." Walensky, on the other hand, well...

It's clear, now more than ever, that Walensky is using her position as a public figure to interject her own personal opinion under the label of the CDC. She is not the sole hammer at the CDC for policy and public guidance. It's clear that, in this case, she was outnumbered and overruled on the travel recommendations for vaccinated individuals. Now, shes throwing a public temper tantrum and talking out both sides of her mouth. Saying what she HAS to say in regard to newly released public guidance by all the powers that be at the CDC, and then following up with what she want's to say in regard to her own personal opinion.

Since the pandemic began, public medical figures have gained a celebrity level status. Walensky took "power" at the tail end of this pandemic and has never really gotten her time to shine. The continuation of her being on television every day is facing "impending doom". She's beginning to remind me of a washed up, has been celebrity that is now saying and doing anything they can to stay relevant and get noticed. Before long, I suspect that Walensky will go full on Britney Spears and shave her head.

They just publicly gave the go ahead to resume air travel.

Yeah I see that now. The good news is, after browsing the headlines of a bunch of news stories about this issue, they almost all use language that makes clear the CDC is lifting travel restriction recommendations

And the TSA numbers continue to rise

True, but like I said in my post above yours, she is not the CDC in and of herself. She’s nothing more than the political mouthpiece who is angry that the rest of the powers that be at the CDC don’t agree with her. It would be like the training and standards department at your airline implementing new SOPs that your chief pilot was adamantly against. S/he likely voiced their opinion during the policy change considerations, but was overruled by other voices that matter besides their own. They can still be vocal about their opposing opinion, but the new SOPs are the new SOPs whether they like it or not.

At the end of the day, the CDC says it’s okay. Walensky didn’t get her way and now she’s using her public position to make it known.

We are moving in the right direction. That's what really matters

People are getting vaccinated and people are flying more.

Said it in the other thread but I really doubt the virus survives the long trip in dry air through the environmental system, regardless of the filter.

“You’d have to sit next to an infected passenger for a minimum of 54 hours to inhale enough of the virus to contract it,”

Indeed..

However, 1 hour at a restaurant table will KILL YOU instantaneously.
Or maybe the omnipotent cognoscenti didn't like the current crop of small biz restaurants, and the lockdowns were the easiest way to cycle that entire industry
