6%? Those are rookie numbers.

Cali is rocking 0.9%.

https://abc13.com/texas-reopening-covid-numbers-continue-to-decline-in-health-experts-urge-caution-with-covid-19-cases/10496006

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A month ago, local health experts and politicians blasted Gov. Greg Abbott's decision to end the mask mandate. But so far, COVID-19 numbers continue to decline.

Texas is open for business. There are no restrictions, and there's no statewide mask mandate. Despite this, neighbors say they haven't noticed much of a difference.
The restrictions ended four weeks ago on Wednesday. The announcement had local health experts and politicians criticizing Abbott. Since then, COVID-19 numbers have improved.

"I still disagree with lifting the mask mandate, but nevertheless, things are good," said Houston Health Authority, Dr. David Persse.

Since the state fully reopened, there are 1,520 fewer COVID-19 patients across Texas. According to the New York Times, the average daily case number has fallen by 1,795 since March 10.

In the Houston area, the Texas Medical Center has 352 fewer patients, and the daily case count has dropped by 301.

I just added a member to the ignore list. Forgot about this feature. Fantastic. Love the picture of the baseball stadium full.

But if you ignore the fear mongering, how will you be scared enough to give up your freedom?

They better lockdown some more, isn’t that the plan?

Leading the way per usual indeed

CA still has a fraction of the positivity rate compared to TX. Everything is open you just still need to wear the mask.

I'm really happy for Texas and hope it stays that way. The warmer weather now should help as infection is much less likely outdoors as we all know. The vaccinations help a great deal too of course.

Regarding positive rates between different States I don't think they mean much in isolation. Only when testing strategies are comparable could it make sense to compare. For instance, if TX only tested people with symptoms or those who have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive then 6% would be a relatively low positive rate. If they tested the general population and got the same 6% then that might be more concerning. But not if for instance most all of the infections were amongst the young and healthy with the at risk population fully vaccinated. So in the end cases requirng hospitalization and deaths are what should really matter. And in that regard most places in the US seem to be doing relatively well these days.

I know it can be tempting but what good does it do to ignore those with different points of view? If we all did this to everyone we disagree with we would only read from those who think like us. That can't be good. I'm convinced it would only deepen the division in society. That's already happening due to online media's algorithms which constantly feed us more of the same opinions we have been watching and reading. Same with biased media outlets. If we only watch the station that tells us what we want to believe or read the papers which are aligned with our views we cannot make progress. So putting a member on the ignore list should be a last resort for example to block those who are clearly only trolling and not interested in debate at all.

Seriously. Not only that but it’s just an internets forum. Literally every post is the least important thing to humanity, just look away if it’s too much to bear. I think it happens when the opposing view hits a bit too hard, making them doubt their deeply engrained notion. Better to shut it out.
