There was a bill introduced over a month ago by Rep Ritchie Torres(D-NY) to require vaccination to be able to fly on “a flight that departs or arrives in the United States or territories”.

It doesn’t say airline flight. This could be applied to all aircraft if passed. It’s in the House Committee on Homeland Security now.

It would put TSA in charge of ensuring compliance.

If only

we all stay home for two weeks

we develop or discover effective treatments

we all wear masks

A vaccine is created

50% of the population is vaccinated

80% of the population is vaccinated

everyone gets vaccinated,

then we could end this pandemic and go back to normal!

The pandemic will eventually end..but it will become endemic then. It’ll never go away. Even if everybody is vaccinated there will still be moderate levels of cases…people will get sick…people will die. The virus will mutate and there will be new boosters every 6-12 months for the “new variant”.

Too bad the government couldn’t make as hard of a push on being healthy as they are on Covid vaccines. If we weren’t such an overweight society that eats/drinks like crap this whole thing wouldn’t even have been a flash in the pan.

Because that would be "Fat Shaming."

It's unfortunate that we as a society have come to a place that expects the government to protect us from every conceivable threat, and yet take no responsibility for our own choices in regards to that threat. Alas, politicians have to "Do Something!"

Going to have fun with this guy. Worst he can do is call me fat and tell me to do some pushups, right?

Seriously...when did we stop relentlessly mocking all politicians in this country?
That's what I like about you. You're like South Park - no one is spared. Equal opportunity harassment for all

Thanks for coming on over to the VID-19 thread and keeping it civil. Most appreciated.

Have you really looked at the demographics of whose dying? Yeah, I know, anyone CAN die of COVID, but who really IS dying? It’s the elderly. More specifically, elderly who are institutionalized that are at far higher risk of dying with COVID. The elderly who even BEFORE COVID only had a median life expectancy of 2.2 years.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...th-by-age.html

An 85 year old has about the same risk of getting COVID as a 25 year old, but about 15 times the risk of being hospitalized when they do. And about 570 times the risk of dying.

We can blame fat people, smokers, diabetics, people with HIV, people on chemotherapy or immune suppressed due to organ transplant and there might be a SMIDGEN of truth in that, but the OVERWHELMING risk factor is age. We are shutting down schools and stealing the future from our kids in an attempt to get 85 year olds to age 90 in a society where the average life expectancy is only 80 to begin with.

Do an analysis of variance on risk factors for death from COVID. Compared to age, everything else is TRIVIAL.

They wrote about this at the onset of this flu. It's called the "Harvest Effect". Mild flu seasons prior to this left a pool of highly susceptible and compromised people. Along comes the vid....Nature. Cruel mistress. But never let a crisis go to waste, am I right?

I’m aware of the numbers and I agree that age is the primary factor.

My comment was more aimed at the things we can control. Less co-morbidities statistically means a lesser chance of getting very sick or dying. Some of those we can control, some we can’t.

Wasn’t there some sort of “Boomers ruined the world and need to get out of the way” movement just before CV hit? I think that gave way to the “everyone over 65 needs to get vaccinated” narrative.

Weird.
