CR held hostage over mandates?
Would Republicans really shut down the government over the mandates?

With the mandates already losing in the courts, would anybody really want this fight?
FRIDAY’S SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN GETS REAL — Conservatives on both sides of the Capitol are privately plotting to force a government shutdown Friday in an effort to defund the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate on the private sector, multiple GOP sources told Playbook.
Capitalizing on a last-minute scramble to fund the government, a group of Senate conservatives is planning to object to quick consideration of a stopgap measure to extend funding into early 2022 unless Democratic leaders agree to deny money to enforce the mandate. Because of the tight schedule — and Senate rules that require unanimous consent to move quickly — the senators believe they’ll be able to drag out the process well past midnight Friday, when funding officially expires.
What they're saying: “I’m sure we would all like to simplify the process for resolving the CR, but I can’t facilitate that without addressing the vaccine mandates,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) told Politico.

- “Given that federal courts across the country have raised serious issues with these mandates, it’s not unreasonable for my Democratic colleagues to delay enforcement of the mandates for at least the length of the continuing resolution.”
- “There is leverage immediately in the Senate, and we think that House Republicans ought to be backing up any number of Senate Republicans … to use all procedural tools to deny the continuing resolution passage Friday night — unless they restrict use of those funds for vaccine mandates,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a Freedom Caucus member, told Playbook

Well the government hummed right along for months while we were shut down, perhaps a little shutdown of the government is exactly what we need amongst the knee jerk reaction to this Omicron variant. Stricter travel testing requirements to be announced on Thursday, tighter than for the original Covid or for the Delta…. can you feel the grip slowly ever tightening for no concrete reason. That’s reason enough !

I even mentioned a little over a week ago lockdowns were coming.
This comes as no surprise to me.

I seriously doubt any more lockdowns in the US, unless it's in extreme blue cities which crave it anyway.
Going to take a whole lot more than a peer-reviewed laundry list of mutations.
Also no reason whatsoever that congress should approve a short-cut budget for something they don't agree with.
My only issue with the early-FY .gov shutdowns is that they civil "servants" always get backpay after getting time off (mil have to work regardless of whether they get paid or not, so backpay is appropriate there if it came down to it).

Nothing to do with lockdowns…..this is about government shutdowns… and I say bring it on, might bring some perspective to those in the bureaucracy.

To rub their democrats noses in the pee pee carpet that they left. Make them realize their stupidity.
The government shutdown 4 times a week for almost 60 hrs.
Life goes on is it "shutdown" for a bit longer to get things under control. A shutdown under their watch its a political blow to Biden, Pelosi and friends....no matter who caused it.
From the democrat playbook..."Let no crisis go to waste!"
