So I went to the gym. They had CNN on in front of my treadmill, didn't listen to the audio because I had music on.

But I ran for an hour, couldn't help but see the banners and CC... they spent most of that on covid, with big maps of almost every state bright red.

Towards the end they switched to the "global monkeypox pandemic".

I can't fully explain the psychological reasoning, or how we got to this point.

But, there is a large section of people out there who have made Covid/Monkeypox/etc part of their inherent identity. Needless to say, these people also have a strong tendency to identify with the Left side of the political spectrum,

As things with Covid have abated, and the country has moved back towards normal, it's almost like these people have laid in wait. They're all spring-loaded to jump back to Full On Masks and Lockdown Protocols. Just as soon as the media tells them to. I guess I kinda get it; it's almost like those guys that make their military service part of their identity, and then seem a little lost when they get out. They still sport the haircut, and have clothes/bumper stickers/etc all emblazoned with their military service.

Here in the Leftist Utopia of Chicago, when you look at the Department of Public Health site, it's as if we're still in a full-on war against Covid. They're pushing vaccines for children as 6 months, and the Director of Public Health is holding weekly "news conferences" on social media. Of which the attendees number in the dozens, and a good chunk of the comments are questioning and lambasting the city for still being so vehemently Covid-focused. Of course, they have a big graphic showing "Chicago's Covid Risk" gauge, with the needle pointing to "High," complete with an ominous red color.

When you look around their site, you see sections like what's quoted below, warning of the danger of virus "mutations."

We're approaching the dog days of Summer. Labor Day is getting big in the windshield. I'm gonna walk out my door pretty soon, and see leaves start falling. I really want to look forward to a normal Fall and Winter, and maybe even convincing my Covid-terrified elderly mother that it's OK to have the family over for Thanksgiving again.

However, I fear that as soon as the temperature dips, the Covid Fear Machine is going to ramp back up. After all, our "Risk Level" is "High" right now, according to the big gauge. We must be on the razors edge already, right?

We'll be in the fourth round of Covid Winter, with Mask Mandates and Proof of Vaccination to enter businesses in no time flat. And there are so many people out there that just can't wait for it to come true.

I got reinfected and am out with Covid right now. I had the OG Omicron version 6 months ago, and now I got the new kind. Symptoms? Runny nose, scratchy throat, upper respiratory inflammation that you'd get when you have a post nasal drip and a little bit of cough. Bring on vitamin C, D, Zinc, honey and lemon tea along with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Time to get caught up on a few shows and set some new high scores on Space Pilot, Galaga and Centipede on my arcade.
