Cruise pointers
All,
Did a search and didn't get much new/relevant info.
Wife and I are looking to do a 8-13 day Mediterranean cruise this summer. Also, I would like to use our free passes to get there - the wife works, so I'm not keen on trying Non-rev.
I'm looking for ideas on points of departures, discount/deals, and general recommendations.
We would be starting travel out of ATL.
Thanks.

For the cruise, check this website: www.perx.com
Make sure your passports are good for at least six months after your planned return date.
Round trip fares could be around $1500 per person, and that's in coach.
If you have pass privileges, you might do better by packing light and leaving a few days early. See what European flights have room in F/C, non-rev there, and take a train to the ship.

We sailed on a 10 day Holland America cruise leaving and returning from Rome. This was one of our favorite vacations and enjoyed all of the ports especially Naples seeing Pompeii/Sorrento/Mount Vesuvius. Also, go early or stay a couple days later to see Rome. Venice is also a great city to see, like no other I have seen. We used USAA to purchase our trip, if you are military.

Trans-Atlantic cruises are a bargain at this time of year, if you can still find one this late. Dargal.com has the best email format for updates.
If you drink, you can usually bring 2 bottles of wine per cabin. Otherwise you pay (expensive) onboard prices.

Check the "interline" tab at vacationstogo.com or as others have mentioned dargal.com. Usually can get some smoking good deals on Mediterranean cruises. We did a 12 day Holland America from Amsterdam to Barcelona a couple years ago for about $600 pp ocean view.

My personable opinion for time of year in terms of getting the best deal is late September through early November. That is the cruise lines slow period after the summer rush and before the holiday rush. I in the past have gotten some crazy discounts booking in that time frame (specifically once a five day cruise to Cozumel on Princess with a balcony room for 280pp).
