I can’t explain it but yes I am a Cseries fan boy. By all accounts the CSeries should be a smash hit. There are several good articles floating around on why the CSeries has not gained more traction; production delays, low fuel prices and arrogance among the top Bombardier leadership, just to name a few.
A quick “I heard this from the mailman’s brothers mechanic” story. Well not quite that bad. So I’m a 9E lifer. (Never applied to Delta) Back in the day when NWA purchased Mesaba Airlines (winter of 20016) and introduced the CJR900 into the NWA fleet, I was one of the first captains to be trained on the aircraft. At the time we had Bombardier factory instructors. (Summer of 2007) About lesson three or four our instructor informed us that today was his last day as he was a project manager on the Cseries and was reassigned to work on the on again, off again, on again aircraft. I remember asking him who is going to buy a 110 seat aircraft? According to him NWA was going to be the US launch customer. True or not true, who knows. Personally I thought it was pure fantasy. However when you look back at history’s timeline one could speculate the CSeries has been in the NWA/Delta fleet plans for quite some time.
Nice video on Air Baltic's first year with the CSearies.

So do we at least know what the fate of the tariffs will be in a couple years when its built in AL? Are we sure that nixes them? And are we sure we'd get them at about the same original price? Or is all that just big time speculation?

If the aircraft is built in the US, it won't carry a tariff. Boeing's next step is to file an anti-trust suit over the Airbus-Bombardier deal. That will go no where, however. I believe the Tariffs will stand in February, for the Cseries made in Canada. This is because, going back on that judgement may cost the US thousands of jobs, that will be created by building the Cseries in 'Bama.

In 2008 Bombardier brought a full scale half cabin mock-up into Bldg N. Sat in an empty sim bay for a month, staffed with a sales rep. It was there for employees to demo. NWA brought Worldperks elite members in to view it as well.
I have a NWA C-Series poster in a tube somewhere in the house.

So will the AL made jets be ours at the original agreed on price?
And how come BA can't accuse dumping if AM gets them anyway? They could make the same argument that its hurting their 7-max line or whatever by "dumping". I thought one of the steps in the process was an international/WTO kind of appellate body, and if that's the case I can't see how the dumping allegation is limited only to US buyers if at any phase in it any kind of international body would have a say.

I guess I get the soundbite politics of that last part, but if those planes are getting built anyway (and just going to AM) then if AM were to get their C Series jets later versus now compared to us getting them now vs later should have no real effect on US jobs either way.

that makes sense. firesale price on the non-competing c100 airframes + near list price on expanded order for additional larger c300 that does arguably compete = reasonable average price on the deal.

Tremendous hypocrisy from Boeing - it is almost laughable!
