Non rev seats avail
Travelnet question...I just noticed while looking at flights from DUS to ATL that the main page for a flight will show 11 seats in business available and 13 in economy. When I check the standby list it shows 7 seats not assigned in Delta One and 25 in economy. I get why there are more in economy but how can there be less in Delta One? The flight in question is a week away.

The extras shown are the ones sold to HKs (who have not yet checked in for the flight). Delta (and most airlines) block a certain number of customers from getting seat assignment until check-in or at the gate. I don't know why the two sources of numbers use different data...

Exactly. It's just two different pieces of information that can be considered separately. The first screen shows how many seats in a cabin are booked/how many more of them they will sell. The airport standby list shows seats unassigned. Theoretically (although it wouldn't happen in reality) you could have screen 1 showing all seats booked (0/0) and the airport standby list showing every seat unassigned. In that case, both pages would still be telling you the truth. |
My question is how can there be 11 seats showing available in business on the first page and then only 7 seats unassigned on the standby list? HKs should not be a player for a flight that is 7 days away with one going everyday.

I'm not sure what company-specific policy on this is, and don't have a reference for you so I may be off base but my experience is they will have a few held. |

Thanks for the response.

The new split for Comfort+ vs. Economy availability is kinda weird to get used to. It'll now show economy oversold by 17 but 18 open in C+ ... so that means there is one available in overall economy?

I wonder if SWA has a thread dedicated to discovering how to decipher their non-rev app?

Whats the point of EC if your going to oversell the back by as many seats as you have in EC and then upgrade to get everybody on? Or is that the point? now I confused myself.

non-rev in Delta One?
Are non-revs with an S3B code eligible for a Delta One seat if it was open?

I think the point is hoping enough chumps pay the $19 at check in for a guaranteed shot at a window or aisle in EC. At least that's how I see it.
According to Paul Jacobsen at a road show, those "chumps" will fork over +$1B in revenue that we would not have gotten otherwise. The strategy is to post "basic economy" fares to capture the customer (not "chumps".... they pay our salary) and then let them pay small upcharges (want an assigned seat, WITH your family together? +$XX. Want more legroom? +$XX). Multiply those small $XX upsells times millions of pax, pretty soon you're talking (begin Carl Sagan voice) BILLIONS. Based on my 14 Feb PS check, I'm OK with this strategy. . |
9 bucks gets you EC on a 50 seater. Now that one is for chumps.

Question for all the Non-rev gurus here. What's the closest to departure time you can list for an international flight? Also, any idea what the extra fees for a family of 4 might be? Thanks..

Last month I listed the family 62 minutes prior to departure, JFK-DUB, checked in (to include entering all passport data required) and we were given seats. Don't know what the minimum is though....

I'm not sure if this is the same for all international flights but it was 45 minutes the last time we did it.
